A group of superfans are in production of a fan film named Star Trek: Axanar, set in the prime universe 20 years before The Original Series, revolving around the Four Year War between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, and the heroic acts of Garth of Izar at the climactic Battle of Axanar. Entirely crowdfunded, they've already created an impressive 20 minute short film to serve as a trailer, titled Prelude to Axanar, starring Tony Todd (Kurn), JG Hertzler (Martok), Gary Graham reprising his "Enterprise" role of Soval, and Richard Hatch and Kate Vernon from Battlestar Galactica.
I have to say, for Original Series and prime universe Trek fans, this is very much worth a watch, and I'm excited for the feature film.
