Conventions

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: ClassicTrek: The Classic Trek Sink: Conventions

First an odd thought Steve might that convention have been in Syracuse N.Y. ,it sounds like my first convention. I won a lunch with her,and for the first time ever tried broccoli.

It's sad that the last years of her life were so miserable -she deserved so much better.

All three of my conventions were here in Toronto, John.
2002 - Toronto Trek 16, 2011 and 2016 both Fan Expo Canada.
She probably went from convention to convention entertaining fans with her other talents, rather than just answering the same questions over and over. Did she also sing in Syracuse?

Most likely -I just thought we might have bumped into each other.

Never been to one-just looking for common ground.

Sorry about that.

You said 'it sounds like my first convention', which would mean you were at one, but now you say you've never been to one?

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Saturday, August 13, 2022 - 9:25 am:

It means that I've been to several Star Trek conventions, and at least one comic book convention.

I've also met several of the stars.

The only reason I have not been to more is that my home town seem to have stopped having them for some reason.

(The only one that I chose not to attend was caused was a misunderstanding -after saving up for it, I didn't want to pay an extra fee just to get William Shatners autograph ,so I spent the money, then found out there also were others there who would be holding standard singings-let us say that I was not a happy camper.)

I remember a time when they didn't charge you for autographs.

I attended several Trek conventions, here in Ottawa, back in the 1990's. Not once was I charged for an autograph.

So do I, sounds about the same as for me.

As for the Shatners autograph, I was just caught of guard, I did understand it when I heard his reasoning.

I think he was tired of scalpers making money reselling something that he was giving away for free.

The only reason that I didn't go was that I didn't hear his reasoning until after I had spent the money, by then it was too late.

Still confused. You wrote 'Never been to one' Why did you say that if you've been to several conventions?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, August 15, 2022 - 5:10 am:

I would never sell the autographed picture I have.

By John E. Porteous (Jep) on Friday, August 19, 2022 - 9:20 pm:

Excuse me Steve, in the top post above I clearly talk about my first convention.

I guess I phrased things worse than I thought.

Sorry about that.

It's all good.
