William Shatner

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: ClassicTrek: The Cast (actors, producers, writers, etc.): William Shatner

By Old Board on Tuesday, June 22, 1999 - 9:42 pm:

By Roland Khorshidianzadeh on Tuesday, January 12, 1999 - 06:12 pm:

I think that William Shatner's hair is real. Just watch "Star Trek IV" for when he's underwater, while he's swimming, and you clearly see that his hair is real!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Murray Leeder on Tuesday, January 12, 1999 - 09:46 pm:

I saw a picture of him once in the Enquirer bald. My question is when he lost his hair.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Sharon Jordan on Tuesday, January 12, 1999 - 11:41 pm:

to me he looks like he has more hair now, than when he did back in the series.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Roland Khorshidianzadeh on Wednesday, January 13, 1999 - 01:15 am:

Was it an old picture of him (i.e. from the 1950's, 1960's, or 1970's) because then he could have had a hair transplant sometime between TOS and ST IV.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Murray Leeder on Wednesday, January 13, 1999 - 09:42 am:

It looked fairly recent, if I remember correctly. Maybe the last ten years.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Wednesday, January 13, 1999 - 10:05 pm:

A friend of mine sw him at an airport some ten years ago. She said his real hair was very thin and reddish.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Kyle Powderly on Thursday, January 14, 1999 - 01:05 pm:

Did anyone ever wonder why Shatner had fine, straight hair in TOS, with a slightly receding hairline, and he shows up in the movies with a thick head of curly hair almost down to his eyebrows? At least in "Generations" his piece looked more realistic. I think he should just do all the fans a favor and WHIP that rug off at the next convention!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Lord Garth on Thursday, January 14, 1999 - 03:40 pm:

I don't want to see what William Shatner's hair or scalp look like!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Thursday, January 14, 1999 - 05:45 pm:

If ya really want the true story on the hair, then just go dig up Kirk from his grave on Veridian III and make a clone from his hair. If ya end up with a clone of Chewbacca, then ya know something is wrong.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Nyla on Friday, January 15, 1999 - 07:26 am:

I remember watching a sitcom once--I think it was Ellen--and one of the main
characters was a wealthy, Hollywood woman. In this episode she's talking to a
directer friend on the phone. "Oh, Bill Shatner's in it?" Pause. "So he lost his toupee.
Just have him wear a Chihuahua on his head." Long pause. "It will too look the same!"

LOL!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Donnysan on Friday, January 15, 1999 - 07:21 pm:

I think the funniest Shatner-hair bit was
the "Shatner 2000" toupe that Bull wore
on Night Court.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Matthias Roth on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 06:54 pm:

I read that Yvonne Craig (Marta) saw B.S. after the filming of "Whom Gods Destroy" with 'his hair in his hands'.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Liam Kavanagh on Monday, January 25, 1999 - 04:12 pm:

At least in his autobiography Koenig comes out about his own wig.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mf on Monday, January 25, 1999 - 06:07 pm:

Well . . . at least Bill was fairly candid about his weight problem in one of his autobiographies.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Alasdair P on Wednesday, February 3, 1999 - 06:02 am:

I could be wrong about the character, but I'm relatively sure that one of the "James T. Kirk" wigs walked (ie disappeared without trace or explanation - "It must have grown legs and walked out by itself") between two of the series of Classic Trek. As I understand it, given that you're trying to get a consistent image, and you're filming certainly the main characters for probably 15-20 weeks in a year, you need to have props wigs just so the characters look the same from week to week...otherwise one disastrous perm and you're behind schedule.

Well, think about it for a mo... whe do we get to see starship captains having a bad hair day?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Wednesday, February 3, 1999 - 11:54 am:

Picard *NEVER* has a bad hair day! :-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jeff on Tuesday, February 16, 1999 - 11:08 pm:

Check out Patrick Stuart as Sejenus, the evil leader of the praetorian guard in "I, Claudius". Yes, he had curls that appeared natual and blond back in 1977.

I forget whether his Guerney Halleck in "Dune" was as follically challenged as Pickard was.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Lea Frost on Thursday, February 18, 1999 - 01:31 am:

Jeff -- that wasn't really Patrick Stewart's hair in "I, Claudius," since he's said he went bald when he was about 20. It was a pretty convincing wig, though... :-) (And Stewart was awesome as Sejanus, btw. I highly recommend "I, Claudius" to everyone...)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Rodnberry on Thursday, February 18, 1999 - 06:40 am:

Anyone got Showtime and seen Stewart in the movie, "Safe House"? It was pretty good. He played a former spy that did drills with his poolman, standup comedian Craig Shoemaker ("The Love Master") and he lives in a very high tech house and is kinda paranoid and his kids think he's losing his mind, then he starts to think so, too. I won't give anything away but it's a very enjoyable made for cable Rmovie.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Monday, March 8, 1999 - 10:43 pm:

Doesn't Janeway always have a bad hairday? :-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Rodnberry on Saturday, March 27, 1999 - 06:59 am:

March 26 was Shatner's 68th birthday. I know, once again I'm late mentioning this but still, a belated happy birthday to him.

By Mike Deeds on Friday, July 23, 1999 - 8:46 am:

Genre Emmy Noms
The 1999 Emmy award nominees have been announced and a number of them are for some of your favorite genre shows.
Among the programs/episodes to be nominated are:

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
William Shatner as The Big Giant Head; 3rd Rock From The Sun

And, yes, I’m rooting for Shatner.

By Rodnberry on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 6:04 am:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/entertainment/DailyNews/shatner990810.html

This a story on Shatner finding his wife's body in their swimming pool. I can only try to imagine his horror of this and my deepest sympathies go out to him for his tragic loss.

By Dan R. on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 2:03 pm:

This has NOT been a good summer at all for Shatner. First his dear friend, DeForest dies, and now his wife.
My deepest sympathies for Mr. Shatner.

By Adam on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 2:19 pm:

No it hasn't. OTOI he has to deal with the trama of finging his wife dead while at the same time deal with being the prime suspect.

By Dan R. on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 4:29 pm:

He's a suspect??? That never even crossed my mind. I would never even think to suspect foul play on his part!

By Mark Stanley on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 5:53 pm:

There is *no* suspicion of foul play whatsoever. The police have ruled that out completely. It was an accident.

By Adam on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 11:02 pm:

Actually what you mean is "The police have *SAID* there is no suspicion of foul play whatsoever. They have ruled that out completely. It was an accident." *ANY*time someone dies under unusual circumstances (found dead in a pool) it is automatically investigated as a homicide until (and sometimes even after) there is overwhelming evidence it was an accident or suicide, And the person they *ALWAYS* look at first is the husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend.
Who was the person that found the body?
Who collects the cash from her life insurance policy?
Was she planning on leaving him? Maybe in a flash of rage....?
We all said OJ couldn't have done it...at first. The police (also the LAPD) also said he wasn't a suspect...at first.
Do _I_ think he did it? No. But I promise you, no matter what they say, the LAPD thinks he did and will do everything they can to prove he did. They will question, requestion, second guess, investigate, dig, poke, pry, hound, and harass this poor guy in an attempt to trip up his "version of the event." And he doesn't need that right now. As I said "he has to deal with the trama of finding his wife dead while at the same time deal with being the prime suspect."

By George Dent on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 - 1:47 am:

I imagine the coroner would probably remove any doubt.

By Adam on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 - 1:56 am:

Has the coroner's report come back yet? It seems to quick if it has.
In a perfect world it would end the matter, our world is anything but. If they say it or not he IS a suspect. Don't be too surprised if you start hearing things.

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 - 7:19 am:

I read in the paper today that Shatner found the body, an autopsy is shceduled for today, and it still looks like an accident.

By Murray Leeder on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 - 11:15 am:

They were estranged. He had filed for divorce 11 months after they were married. What's more, she was in detox for a while. The plot thickens.

By Adam on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 - 11:29 pm:

Well someone has to say it so I guess its me.
"she's dead Jim."

By Anonymous on Monday, August 16, 1999 - 2:09 am:

That wasn't funny or in good taste.

By Wes Collins on Monday, August 16, 1999 - 9:36 pm:

Well someone had to say it. I'm just glad it wasn't me.

By Have you no decency? on Monday, August 23, 1999 - 7:20 pm:

Some of you above should be ashamed of your statements. Not only are they harsh - but they are heartless and cruel. Come on people! THINK!! A man has just lost his wife - stop incriminating him and offer support and condolences (if you have a heart to have any). Put yourself in his position and see how you would like to be treated like that.
And in the spirit of Star Trek, I urge you to be caring towards our fellow human beings and most importantly, nonjudgemental.

By Adam on Monday, August 23, 1999 - 11:03 pm:

Who here is incriminating him? Who here has said or implied it was a good thing and that he killed her?

By Will Spencer on Wednesday, September 22, 1999 - 2:41 pm:

I wanted to read Shatner's books altogther, rather than wait a year for the next, so I'm up to 'Avenger' now, having finished 'The Ashes Of Eden' last week, and 'The Return' a couple days ago, and have to admit that I like his books. Let's not forget that he also writes the TekWar series, when you wonder how much he's actually written, and how much Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens had put in. They're the novel professionals, and I think they guide him as much as he admits in his Forwards, but I believe he's the real author. How could the Reeves-Stevens' just stand by for years, book after book, and pretend not to have actually written five large novels? They couldn't, and that's why I feel Shatner is the author with the majority of the control, while his co-authors tweek the story and put in all those continuity and present-day facts that we all like to read. One novel with Shatner getting most of the credit? Maybe. Two; I'm skeptical. But 5? Now way.

By Ron Albanese on Wednesday, September 22, 1999 - 5:14 pm:

Shatners wig history is mysterious. For example,
what did he wear immediately post-Trek?
I have never seen many pix from this time..

By Todd Pence on Tuesday, November 23, 1999 - 7:58 am:

I bought the Golden Throats CD yesterday - it's got two songs with Shatner singing - I've got "Lucy in the Sky" playing now, and you just haven't lived till you've heard his rendition of "Mr. Tamborine Man". Also has a couple of Nimoy songs. A classic.

By Electron on Thursday, April 20, 2000 - 10:17 pm:

Oh my...He´ll sing again!!!

By Adam Bomb on Sunday, September 17, 2000 - 5:08 pm:

I want a CD of "William Shatner's Greatest Hits for Priceline.com." He had stated that he did the commercials to take his mind off the death of his wife. Personally, I think the one running now is the best.(Do you know...?) He takes one of the worst songs from the 70's (from one of the most critically reviled movies of the 70's, "Mahogany"), and makes it into a camp classic. He is spoofing his own image as a "Golden Throat." Bravo. P.S. He also cleaned up on his Priceline.com stock options.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, October 14, 2000 - 5:40 pm:

It is good he cleaned up on his options when he did, because Priceline.com is in the toilet, especially after he admitted on national TV (48 Hours) that he does not buy his airline tickets from Priceline.com. By the way, there is a woman in the latest commercials that looks remarkably like Lisa Loeb.

By Adam Bomb on Friday, December 15, 2000 - 10:48 pm:

Shatner has beamed away from Priceline.com. He has jumped ship, and is no longer associated with the company. I personally don't expect Priceline.com to survive much longer. A lot of dot coms are taking a beating now.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 5:13 pm:

If anyone is interested, Mr. S. makes in appearance in the Sandra Bullock vehicle, "Miss Congeniality." I do not know what part he plays, and I have no intention of seeing the film; Ms. Bullock's performances makes me retch. If anyone out there sees it, please let me know the skinny.

By Msmith (Msmith) on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 5:53 pm:

He plays the beauty pageant announcer, doesn't he?

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - 5:32 pm:

He has after the title billing, indicating his part is not significant. (Yes, all the actors in all nine Trek movies were billed after the title.)

By Adam Bomb on Friday, December 22, 2000 - 10:08 pm:

Our good Captain as Bert Parks? Fascinating. The review in the Star-Ledger states that Mr. S is more amusing in the Priceline.com ads than in this movie. If he left Priceline, why are they running an ad with a montage of stills of our superstar?

By Adam Bomb on Friday, February 02, 2001 - 6:41 pm:

Mr. Shatner will host the Miss USA pageant this year. Life imitates art. BTW, Sarah Jessica Parker ("Sex and the City") does the ads for Priceline.com now. However, she just does a voice-over.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, February 17, 2001 - 1:53 pm:

Mr. Shatner is getting married for the fourth time. See Trekweb or Section 31.com for further info. (Why is he doing this to himself? He will be 70 on March 22. Is he afraid he will die alone?)

By Ghel on Friday, February 23, 2001 - 9:42 am:

"Why is he doing this to himself?"

Why is he getting married again? Why not, the man is 70, he's not dead. If women still want me at 70, I'd be more than happy to oblige!

By Adam Bomb on Friday, February 23, 2001 - 5:33 pm:

My opinion is: Some people cannot be alone, and Mr. Shatner is apparently one of them. If he wants to remarry at 70, that's his choice. It wouldn't be mine, but it is his, and I respect that.

By Adam Bomb on Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 7:01 pm:

Happy 70th Birthday, Bill!

By Anonymous on Wednesday, April 04, 2001 - 5:49 pm:

Why did Shatner insist on stealing his co-stars' lines. Maybe then, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, & Chekov would've had more depth than simply saying "Aye, Sir," and repeating the orders Kirk gave them all the time.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, April 07, 2001 - 6:53 pm:

Probably "Actor's Ego." Harlan Ellison wrote something for a special "Star Trek" mag TV Guide did in 1995. Shatner got palsy-walsy with Ellison so he could get first dibs on the "City on the Edge" script. Shatner re-read it at Ellison's house two or three times, then went to TPTB the next day demanding yet another rewrite (after this script had been re-written who knows how many times) as Spock had four more lines than Kirk. It could be possible that he line-counted every script and threw the same type of hissy-fit every time.

By Will S. on Monday, April 16, 2001 - 10:07 am:

I wonder what Shatner's reaction was when he saw the script for 'The Tholian Web'!?

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, April 21, 2001 - 7:17 pm:

I have often wondered that, too, especially after reading Ellison's essay. Shatner, in his book, has sided with Fred Freiberger, the third season producer. Maybe Freiberger could make him accept a script where he had such a minimal part.

By D.K. Henderson on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 5:12 am:

In David Gerrold's book THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES, he comments about being on the set one day, busily scribbling away, when Shatner walked up to him and asked what he was doing. Gerrold told him, "I'm working on a new script where you lose your voice in the first scene and don't get it back until the end of the show." Gerrold had a nasty cruel streak, didn't he?

By Anonymous on Tuesday, May 08, 2001 - 8:08 am:

I laughed my a$$ off when Altman called Shatner an icon of the cinema(in an interview for that pointless Bring Back Kirk website[I call it pointless because there is no way in hell that Berman is going to bring Kirk back, unless those Shatner disciples have a little assassination in mind]).
An icon of TV, perhaps. But of the cinema?
The only noteworthy films Shatner has made are the Trek films & Kingdom of the Spiders(yes, there's Judgment at Nuremburg, but that was pre-Trek).
With logic like this, Altman probably thinks that Visiting Hours is the best thriller since Psycho. The reason: Shatner is in it(in a rather thankless role, I might add).

By Anonymous on Saturday, August 18, 2001 - 4:41 am:

Shatner played the role of Chairman for a couple of Iron Chef USA specials made for UPN. No idea when they're going to air, but the reviews I've read say they stink. The reviews also say that Shatner's talent is wasted.
For one thing, they gave him horrible lines ("I'm the chairman, but you can call me `The'", for instance) that he read from the teleprompter. The reviews said he was pretty funny when they let him adlib, though.

By juli k on Saturday, August 18, 2001 - 6:47 pm:

Well, at least someone was smart enough to realize that Shatner does have talent! :)

Shatner was at a STAR TREK convention yesterday. Here's the review from The Dallas Morning News, if anyone's interested.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, December 22, 2001 - 11:00 am:

Check out the photo section of Mr. Shatner's book, "Get A Life" (his third with co-author Chris Kreski.) There are two photos of him with actor Kevin Pollak. I could not tell if it was Mr. Shatner or a wax replica in the photos.

By Anonymous on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 12:25 pm:

Sh!tner says that he's now unhappy with how Kirk began his new career of pushing up daisies in Generations.
Well, Bill, it's a little too late for that now, since there's no way in hell Berman's gonna let you don that wig & girdle to play Kirk again.

By Mike on Thursday, February 14, 2002 - 11:58 am:

Is William Shatner Really such a "Bad Actor" as common knowledge and opinion says, Granted he may not be the Best Actor but he's certainly not the worst either. Even in Non-Trek Roles he does OK.

By kerriem on Thursday, February 14, 2002 - 9:08 pm:

He's definitely gotten a bit of a bad rap acting-wise, partly because of his unique style and partly because his real-world personality is so flamboyant. (And also partly, I think, because that toupee is just so ruddy obvious...:))

People tend to forget he was considered a 'prestige' dramatic actor immediately pre-Trek - he appears in classic Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents eps, for instance. And he starred in a short-lived lawyer series which I don't recall the name of at the moment but have heard highly praised.

By John A. Lang on Thursday, February 21, 2002 - 2:52 pm:

TV GUIDE recently had an interview with Shatner about his effort on trying to mend his strained relations with the members of the Original cast:

"With the exception of Nicelle (Nichols), they didn't want to talk to me about it. They said that's all water under the bridge....Maybe I'm brusque. But is brusque worth a vendetta for all these years when we're all going to die very soon?"

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 - 6:52 am:

Kerriem-Shatner's toupee is fairly obvious, especially the one he wore on "T.J. Hooker." However, I see men wearing far worse "rugs" on the trains every day. I have a full head of (salt and pepper) hair, but if I didn't, I would rather be Patrick Stewart-bald than wear some of the bad toupees that I have seen. Actually, I think Mr. Shatner looks in overall good shape for a man who will be 71 soon.
P.S. He just signed up again with Priceline.com, but took cash instead of stock as payment.

By ScottN on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 - 10:34 am:

In reference to Adam's PS, see this Kattoon.

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 - 11:29 pm:

Kerri, I believe the lawyer series you're referring to was The Defenders.

By Adam Bomb on Thursday, February 28, 2002 - 7:19 am:

I don't think "The Defenders" was that short lived; I believe it ran for three or four seasons on CBS in the early '60's. (It starred the late Robert Reed, years before his signature role as Mike Brady-a role that Jeffrey Hunter actually auditioned for.) Of late, Showtime ran several cable movies based on this series, but E.G Marshall was the only original cast member to return.

By kerriem. on Thursday, February 28, 2002 - 8:23 am:

That was my first guess too, Luigi, but Adam's right.
According to the IMDb, Shatner's series was actually called For the People and ran for 13 eps in 1965. Same general concept as The Defenders, though - dedicated lawyer battles the system for his clients.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, March 23, 2002 - 12:12 am:

Mr. Shatner's performance was probably the best thing about "Showtime," the so-so formulaic buddy cop movie starring Robert DeNiro and Eddie Murphy. Shat plays himself, directing the TV show "Showtime" featuring the real cop characters played by De Niro and Murphy. Check out DeNiro's daughter here too, she plays the assistant to Rene Russo's producer.

By Will on Monday, March 25, 2002 - 10:06 am:

Happy belated birthday for the Big S., as he turned 71 last Friday!

By Adam Bomb on Friday, May 10, 2002 - 8:42 am:

Mr. Shatner is currently on the air as the host of VH-1's "Top 100 One-Hit Wonders." Unfortunately, his role is little more than light commentary and the inevitable "Coming Up" before the commercial breaks. VH-1's in house announcer (don't know his name; it isn't Jim Forbes of "Behind The Music") does most of the narration.

By Adam Bomb on Monday, July 08, 2002 - 8:54 am:

"One Hit Wonders" becomes a series, hosted by Mr. Shatner, premiering July 29, 2002.

By kerriem on Monday, July 08, 2002 - 10:53 am:

Huh. While I think the concept of the show is great...I do wonder where the original 'Shatner = one-hit wonders" connection came from?

(I mean, you're not going to tell me that the man actually had a hit with Mister Tambourine Man, are you? :O)

By Butch Brookshier on Saturday, July 20, 2002 - 4:08 pm:

I think it was his spoken word rendition of "Rocket Man" that was the hit. :O

By Adam Bomb on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 12:47 pm:

Mr. Shatner is back to doing Priceline.com commercials. Check them out-a nice piece of camp.

By ScottN on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 12:56 pm:

He's never stopped doing them.

I've commented on the "Never hear in Trek" board, but...

Shatner: The Priceline™ supercomputer... Supercomputer? Must... resist... urge to... talk... computer... to death!!!!

By Mr. Mistie on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 6:18 pm:

Shatner dons a very realistic semi-crew cut piece in the new commercials. Actually I'm sure it's his own hair. Butt hair that is.

Scifi actually ran the movie "Incubus" the other night. That was easily the worst thing Shatner has ever been associated with. It's hard to believe that he ever worked again. Though I suppose Roddenberry probably liked the concept of a movie done entirely in Esperanto, the language designed to promote world peace.

Is William Shatner a lousy actor?

This is a serious question. I've heard this comment from a lot of people.

I think he was a good actor when he was on the original Star Trek. But now has declined as an actor. As an actor today, I see him as a "ham."

Well, what do you think?

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, March 05, 2004 - 5:10 am:

I think he did an adequate job on the show, and he shined during many moments in the movies. The character he played had something of a built-in camp factor (or perhaps he played it that way), and he made it work.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 - 9:13 am:

Mr. Shatner is coming out with a new CD in October. He will be assisted by musical talents like Henry Rollins, Aimee Mann and Ben Folds. I am sooo pumped.

By roger on Friday, August 20, 2004 - 1:41 pm:

I remember he was in a TV series, "The Barbary Coast", around 1974, which I liked.

What's so bad about his toupee? Is it really the toupee, or the fact that it's obviously a toupee?

"What are the distinguishing characteristics of a good or bad toupee?" (said the abominable snowman to Daffy Duck...)

By John A. Lang on Sunday, August 29, 2004 - 7:46 pm:

On a positive note, William Shatner has made amends with James Doohan. They are now close friends.

By Adam Bomb on Monday, August 30, 2004 - 11:54 am:

That's good to hear, John. How did you find this out? Did you go to the big convention (Jimmy Doohan's last, as you know) this past weekend?

By John A. Lang on Monday, August 30, 2004 - 12:09 pm:

No, I read it on the internet. It was on MSN.Com or StarTrek.Com. I can't remember which now.

By John A. Lang on Monday, August 30, 2004 - 12:27 pm:

Here it is! I found it!

Adam, I had heard that the other cast members patched things up with Shatner some time ago, IIRC, when he was grieving over the death of his third wife, which was in Aug. 1999. I don't know if this held true for all of the ones who harbored ill feelings for him, though, so I'm not sure if Doohan was one of them.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 - 8:57 am:

I didn't hear that, Luigi, and it's good to know. Thanks for the info. There comes a time when petty squabbling should just be put aside.
There's a photo in today's New York Daily News, of the surviving cast, taken this past weekend at the "Farewell" convention. It may be the last photo together they ever take. (Sorry I can't link to it.)

By Benn on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 - 10:45 pm:

I've heard one track on Dr. Demento a couple of weeks ago: "You'll Have Time". It was pretty damned funny, actually. As for the rest of the disc... Haven't heard it. Not sure I'd want to.

One of the big songs on the Dr. Demento show this year has been a parody of the Rolling Stones' "Shatter" called "Shatner". What gets me is that for the last several years whenever I heard the Stones song, I would be singing it as "Shatner". Now someone has recorded a version of it.

"Khaaaaaannnnnnnn!"

By Adam Bomb on Monday, December 13, 2004 - 10:06 am:

Anybody check out Boston Legal? Mr. Shatner had a scene in last night's episode, where he was singing a Christmas carol and playing the piano. Later, he was in a scene smoking cigars along with his series co-star, James Spader.
Does he actually play the piano?
Does he really smoke cigars?

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, December 13, 2004 - 1:41 pm:

If I had to guess, I'd guess that he doesn't play the piano, or else he might've found a way to incorporate it into his albums. As for cigars, I don't know, but it's not unusual for non-smokers to smoke in TV and movies; they simply use herbal cigarettes/cigars, which don't have tobacco in them.

By Denny Crane on Monday, December 13, 2004 - 11:04 pm:

I want to know if he really sticks cigars in his ear. Denny Crane.

Mr. Shatner just sold his kidney stone for $20,000. The proceeds are going to Habitat for Humanity. (If you watch Hometime or any shows on the "DIY" channel, you know who they are.) More here.

He looks pretty good for 75. Nothing like the old man he portrayed in 'The Deadly Years'.

By ScottN on Friday, June 02, 2006 - 6:29 pm:

Couldn't find the "Butchers of songs" board, but...

Shatner sings Rocket Man.

Some really cool names of characters portrayed by Shatner:

"Jack Pilgrim"
"Brandywine Gage"
"Maung Tun"
"Menemsha Faxon"
"Eli Neily"
"Rack Hansen"
"Munro McLean"
"Buck Murdock"

Anyone else have any other faves?

By Influx on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 6:25 am:

I'm really looking forward to this. Although it is kind of a shock to watch TOS and see him as a "serious" actor, compared to the goofball he is now.
