Exiled: A Law & Order Movie

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Crime and Justice Shows: Law & Order: Exiled: A Law & Order Movie
By Srussel (Srussel) on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 - 5:38 pm:

Exiled to Staten Island after punching a city councilman, Detective Mike Logan is bored with "chasing down stolen lawn mowers." But a prostitute's murder may be his ticket back to Manhattan Homicide. His world-weary lieutenant reluctantly assigns Logan to the case and teams him with Det. Frankie Silvera. Along the way, they encounter a mob figure and his father and learn that there's a dirty cop in Logan's old precinct.

Interesting Facts:

Both Ice-T and Costas Mandylor, before this TV movie aired, had aired in the fun, but sadly short-lived Dick Wolf series Players. Also, Ice-T went on to play a detective on SVU.

Cragen makes an appearence here, as the head of the Organized Crime unit. Apparently the guy had a tough time deciding exactly what it was he wanted to do in the NYPD.

Why is Staten Island considered an "Exile?" It makes it like Staten Island is dull and boring. I was raised on Staten Island and it does not deserve that designation. Two years ago, Officer Matty Dgiergowski was killed on Staten Island by a speeding driver in an SUV. He was a good family man and a good cop. My brother is a police detective assigned to Manhattan South; his first assignment as a detective was in Staten Island. This, however, is not to denigrate the movie's quality, just to set the record straight on Staten Island.

I think that it may be because although Staten Island is no more boring than any other similar sized city, all the "real' action is in Manhattan, or at least so it would seem to both the writers in LA (the same ones who think that between Arizona and New Jersey there are nothing but corn museums and giant balls of string.) and to someone like Logan who is addicted to excitement.

Has anyone given thought to what a big screen Law & Order venture would be like?

By Mac on Saturday, November 02, 2002 - 1:33 pm:

Yes I have, and I imagine control-freak Vincent Donfrio (who apaprently gets more power on CI than even Dick Wolf), who was all psyched about exec. producing the big 5 part 3 show crossover that was canned after 9/11 would just HAVE to be involved somehow.

Logan gets assigned to the 128th Precinct on Staten Island; the 128 does not exist there. Also, Logan is seen on a pay phone as soon as he leaves the ferryboat on the Manhattan side. In reality, there are no pay phones near the ferry exit ramps; you have to go into the terminal to use one.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 12:55 pm:

The ferryboat Logan is seen riding, the "American Legion," was commissioned in 1965, and de-commissioned around 2006. Its hull can be seen in the docks on Staten Island, as it's used as parts for its sister ferry, the "John F. Kennedy," which is still in service after 43 years.

Logan states the woman's body went into the water off New Dorp. New Dorp is about six or seven miles from the St. George Ferry area, where the body was apparently found. If the corpse had floated the six or seven miles, it would probably be so bloated as to be unrecognizable.

Exiled is finally available on DVD; it's being released through Amazon's "Create Space" MOD program. More on it, including cover art, here.
