Who would want to be one of Jessica's friends? That seems to be worse than wearing a red shirt on Classic Trek!

Jean Stapleton (All In The Family) was originally offered the Jessica Fletcher role. She turned it down, paving the way for Angela Lansbury.

Actually Jessie's friends are not the victims, they are the prime suspects. If I found out that someone I'd been giving a hard time to knew Jessica and was expecting a visit, I'd make up, and right quick, with everyone I could.

LOL, both of you. Actually, IIRC, the friends are a good (un)healthy mix of both. :O

Somebody on jumptheshark.com also made the interesting point that this woman has been involved in something like 256 murders before she's through, many of people she knew personally. Hellooooo, intensive therapy!

I remember one episode where the lawyer for Jessie's friend, the main suspect, actually "Plan B'ed" her(if you've seen The Practice you know what I mean) by bringing up just this sort of trivia.

I've been watching the first season on DVD. The episodes are all right, but I really enjoy seeing all the guest stars.

I watched the final episode last night, "Funeral at Fifty Mile", which is set in Wyoming. One of the background characters is an Hispanic ranch hand, called Jesus--which is a fairly common Hispanic name. In the credits at the end, he is listed as Hay-Soos!!!!! I couldn't believe it!

It's rather remarkable that Jessica never had any children, given that both her family and her husband's appear to be extraordinarily prolific. I'll have to go back and count up just how many cousins, nieces, nephews, and uncles she had in this first season alone.
