Bone To Be Wild

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Farscape: Season One: Bone To Be Wild
Hiding from Crais’ command carrier in an asteroid belt, Moya picks up a distress call from one of the asteroids. Going down to the asteroid, John and D’Argo rescue a female creature called M’Lee who is being attacked by a monster. When they get back to the pod the monster is already inside and during the fight D’Argo is injured and the pod is damaged.
Moya is having problems bonding with her baby and Pilot asks Aeryn to go aboard the child and try to understand him better. He responds well to her, showing her how to work his command centre and helping her to obscure him from Crais.
Collecting herbs to help D’Argo’s injuries, Zhaan gets separated from John and M’Lee and is attacked again by the monster. While they’re looking for Zhaan, M’Lee launches a ravenous attack on John but is chased off by the monster who seems to be a fairly decent guy after all. His name is Br’nee and he has already rescued Zhaan. He explains that M’Lee is a calcivore, an eater of bones. Br’nee is a botanist who was part of an expedition to catalogue and collect the flora on the asteroid; he is the last survivor after M’Lee ate everyone else. However, M’Lee later tells John that Br’nee’s people deliberately brought her and others like her to the asteroid to kill off all the lifeforms, leaving the flora safe to collect. Once they’d killed off everything on the asteroid, they had to resort to cannibalism – M’Lee was the only one left when Br’nee and his team arrived.
On the command carrier, Crais and Scorpius engage in a battle for control, which Scorpius wins.
Br’nee captures Zhaan who, as a humanoid plant, would be a prize possession. Rescuing her, John kills Br’nee. They leave a starving M’Lee feeding on his corpse, and return to Moya. Detecting the pod’s launch, troops from the carrier land on the asteroid to be greeted by a delighted M’Lee.
As Moya and the baby prepare to leave the asteroid belt, Pilot relays Moya’s invitation to Aeryn to choose the baby’s name.

Br’nee tries to fool Crichton into believing that M’Lee has eaten Zhaan by leaving a pile of bones lying around for him to find. Firstly, where would he have got bones from; and secondly, why leave bones anyway? M’Lee eats the bones and only leaves the flesh, so there shouldn’t have been bones available for Br’nee to use in the attempted deception, and I would have thought that keeping any bones in the lab would have been very risky. In any case the fact that there were bones outside should have been a clue that M’Lee hadn’t been in the area for a while.
