I sort of understand the rationale of why exposure to the black hole would cause Crichton to see into the future, as they theorectically (since no one has ever encountered a black hole and one wouldn't exactly be able to report results anyway) cause temporal distortions as you get closer. But why does it emit a sickly green light?

In the British box set of videos of Season 1, this is the third episode although it appears to have been shown fifth on the TV.

John touches the panel in the escape pod containing the black hole with his right hand, but after the opening credits he is favouring his left hand.
