Relativity

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Farscape: Season Three: Relativity
"I may be small, but let me remind you that only serves to put me at castration level!"
-- Rygel to Stark
"We’ve left a trail Stevey Wonder could follow."
-- Crichton

PLOT SUMMARY
This is some heavy stuff. ("There's that word again. Why is everything so heavy in the future? Is there something wrong with the Earth's gravitational pull?" -- Doc Brown) They've landed on a planet to let Talyn heal. (This is becoming a recurring theme). John and Aeryn have just finished having passionate jungle sex (and Rygel's been listening all night. ROFL). Xhalax Sun (Aeryn's mama) shows up. She's brought some Colartes (or Pina Colatas as Crichton calls them) along to help with the search. Aeryn, Crais, and Crichton go out to draw the baddies away from Talyn. A shootout ensues. Crais is injured. Xhalax is injured. Aeryn leads Xhalax back to Talyn. Crichton tries to lead Crais back to Talyn. Aeryn and Xhalax get there. Crichton and Crais do not. Crichton and Crais wander the woods (lost) trying to evade the Pina Colatas. At one point, Crais collapses and passes out. Scorpy shows up. He informs Crichton that Crais is using him as protection. The PKs want him back too.
Back on Talyn, Xhalax escapes Aeryn's custody (by cutting her arm open with her fingernail to get a knife. Yucgh!) She attempts put Talyn on manual control until they can get a control collar on him. But she has other concerns. Time to go fulfill Objective #2: Capture Captain Bailar Crais. She goes off. Rygel frees Aeryn from being tied up. Aeryn goes after Xhalax. Everyone meets in a little grove. A bunch of stuff happens. Sufice it to say, Aeryn must kill Xhalax but Crichton insists that if she has to die, Crais should do it. Crais does it. Aeryn breaks down in tears. Our intrepid crew heads off again.

And as it was said in the recap, now that the retrieval squad threat has been neutralized, Talyn and Moya can reunite.

ANALYSIS
>> This was a decent episode. I'm speaking from a plot perspective. The acting was spectacular as always but the plot was so... I don't know how to describe it. It was lacking somehow.
>> Rygel and Stark again. Gotta love it.
>> Crichton and Crais again. Gotta love it even more.
>> This is getting somewhat tiresome. I'm almost certain now that this Crichton will die. Let's just reunite the crews and get on with it already.
>> This show's becoming little too much like a soap opera for my tastes.

NITS
>> Crichton's trap works because the Pina Colatas can't smell Crichton. But just a few scenes earlier, they were able to see them with infared vision. He's hiding behind a tree a few metras away. What's the deal?
>> When will people learn? Don't tie up prisoners using plain ol' rope. They ALWAYS get out. Xhalax escapes and then uses the same stuff on Aeryn. Real smooth.
>> Since when can Leviathans land? The last time Moya tried that, bad things happened. (Special PK modifications perhaps?)
>> How does PseudoScorpius have information that neither John nor the real Scorpius has?

Scorpius's family reunion

'Shippers everywhere rejoice! Aeryn and John finally "get personal," if you know what I mean. Of course, that was about the only high point for the ep. Very dark ep overall.
Aeryn's mom is a bi***, with a captial B. Ruthless to the extreme, particularly while tearing up Talyn (and that whole thing with her killing the original Talyn, chilling). But is she really dead? We never did see her get shot. I wouldn't trust Crais farther than I can throw him, even with his own life on the line. Hmm.... And now Talyn has neural functions borrowed from Crais? I don't think that's going to be a good idea.
I'm quite interested to know how TPTB plan to tie the two story lines together in the end, with the two Johns. Now that Aeryn is intimate with the John on Talyn, how is that going to affect the John on Moya? I see some major sparks when the two Johns run into each other again.

Another "here we go again" moment. Please stop with the killing of cast. Its getting a tad old.

Hilarious beginning, with Rygel complaining about the noise next door and Stark instantly settling down with his ear against the wall!

How did Rygel intend to get Talyn to take off without Crais on board?

Nice to hear Zhaan get a mention.

Some of the middle part of the episode went too fast and didn’t always make sense, especially where one moment John is accusing Crais of trying to double cross them so that he can escape, and then shortly afterwards has not only released him but given him a gun!

I’m not convinced that Mummy Sun is really dead – Crais’ suggestion that John take Aeryn away from the killing zone didn’t ring true. Is he really that compassionate?

I think the reunion of the two crews is going to be fantastic for us viewers, although incredibly tense. Can you imagine how Moya-Crichton is going to feel when he learns what Talyn-Crichton has been doing with the love of his life? And how is Aeryn going to cope – will she have the same feelings for the John that she hasn’t slept with? It’ll be awful – whenever ‘John’ comes into the room she won’t know how to react to him until she works out which one it is. I wonder how long the writers can hang this out before they have to kill off one of the two (it might have something to do with how long the budget can handle the double imaging!).

They knew I was going to say what I said on the Losing Time board. They did it to make me look daft. ;)

I haven't seen any eps past this one but I think that it isn't above Crais to make Aeryn leave to help prevent pain. Crais does seem to care for her more than he does for any other person on Talyn or Moya, except, of course, Talyn.

So, to make Talyn take out an intruder, you have to say something along the lines of "Talyn, activate the-", which gives Xhalax plenty of time to knock Aeryn out. That's why it should always be something easier, like "Talyn, intruder!!"
