Infinite Possibilities, Part 1: "Daedalus Demands"

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Farscape: Season Three: Infinite Possibilities, Part 1: "Daedalus Demands"
"Great! The half-blind leading the blind!"
--Rygel to no one inparticular

PLOT SUMMARY:
Jack Crichton appears again (see "A Human Reaction"), although he's actually an Ancient and accuses John of selling wormhole technology. They realize it's not John but Furlow, the chubby orange woman from "Til the Blood Runs Clear." In that episode, she was doing some repairs to Farscape One and obtained all the data they had gathered on wormholes.
They set course for Dam-ba-Da. (Furlow's planet which has solar flares troubling it every so often) They're promptly attacked by Charrids. During one solar flare, Talyn and Crais are both blinded, but the others manage to get into the compound.
They find Furlow. Now she's been able to safely traverse wormholes. She hired some Charrids as security but they betrayed her and tried to steal the wormhole tech for the Scarrans, with whom they are now in league. Charrids were also responsible for over a billion deaths in a war with the Hynerian Empire. This doesn't sit well with Rygel (who was Dominar of the Hynerian Empire BTW). He interrogates a Charrid prisoner and finds out that a Scarran dreadnought is on course for the planet to collect the wormhole tech.
Jack and John won't let them have it, but the Scarrans tap into Furlow's computer and download all data regarding the phase compensator. The only thing left to do is to use the wormhole tech in John's brain to destroy the Scarran dreadnought. But they can't do it with Harvey (the Scorpy clone) hanging around. The Charrids attack the compound. During the attack, Crichton is knocked unconcious. Harvey tells Crichton that Jack is using him and then he'll kill everyone. Crichton says "Kiss my medula oblongada" and he disappears. Back in the real world, Rygel is at a turret firing at the invading Charrids. He gets wounded and collapses onto the floor.
Jack begins to drive Scorpy out of John's mind. There is a risk that John may lose and Scorpy will take over again. The process of driving out Scorpy is symbolized in a roller coaster ride. Scorpy tells John that he needs him. He says that he's happy to co-exist with Crichton. John says no way. He's sick of him.
Back in the real world, both Jack and John collapse. Aeryn rushes over to Crichton. Crichton opens his eyes and addresses Aeryn as "Officer Sun". This ain't Crichton. Suddenly we get an "audience only" view of Crichton in the Scorpy getup (see "Die Me, Dichotomy"). Aeryn pulls out her pulse pistol and points it at ScorpyCrichton's head.

TO BE CONTINUED.

ANALYSIS:
>> Well done all around.
>> Aeryn in her skivvies at the beginning! YOWSA! Wouldn't mind seein more of that!
>> It seems that Stark just irritates everyone. Poor Crais has to spend his time being guided by Stark.
>> I like Harvey. I hope they don't get rid of him.
>> Rygel gets killed AGAIN! Argh!
>> I like Furlow. She actually seems normal when compared with some other aliens our crew has encountered.
>> Return of ScorpyCrichton. What will happen next week?

NITS:
>> The Ancients from "A Human Reaction" look a little different than what Jack looks like when he transforms in the compound.
>> When Scorpy suddenly takes over John's body, his teeth turn yellow for no reason.
>> Why is Harvey a threat? He's inside John's head, but the real Scorpius doesn't know this.
>> I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but if Crichton gets home, will anyone believe where he's been? And if he shows up with this woman who speaks with an Australian accent they'll probably think he's been giving away Farscape One's designs to the Australians.

NEXT WEEK: Will this story have a happy ending? Find out next week.

Rygel is wounded (and perhaps dead) again!?!! How many times is this going to happen?

Also, the teaser for next week showed both Jack AND Crichton in tip top shape. So while it's possible that Moya arrives (and brings the other John), the teaser has pretty much removed all the suspense of whether or not Harvey won.

And I have to say, having Harvey around *has* been tremendously helpful to John. Crichton would surely be dead by now if it wasn't for Harvey.

Interestingly enough, if Jack and John succeed in creating the wormhole weapon that they intend, this will probably confirm to the Scarrans that the Peace Keepers do indeed have wormhole weaponry (or at least give the Scarrans pause for thought on that point)

So did Linfer the Relgarian (of Incubator) have the right idea then (phase progression) she just implemented it incorrectly?

I think the only person more beat-up than Rygel is Talyn.

I'm glad TPTB remembered about Furlow (sp?) and her little deal from the first season. I think other shows (cough...Voyager!...cough) may have forgotten about such a detail, but Farscape's writers didn't. That's really refreshing after other series seem to conveniently forget things that happened early on or just hit the big "reset" button.

According to the official site it's "Furlow"

So how many characters have now died this season?

By Callie Sullivan on Monday, November 26, 2001 - 3:29 pm:

It's a shame the wardrobe people couldn't have got the whites of Furlow's contact lenses to match her natural whites. Every time there was a close up of her, you could see the contacts really clearly.

Otherwise, a great episode! Another of those where I kept looking at the clock thinking that they were running both parts of the episode back to back because it seemed to have been going for ages but was only about 20 minutes in!

What was the "suh uh nuh" business between John and Aeryn at the beginning? Was he teaching her to speak English?

By Merat on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 7:49 pm:

Wasn't John teaching Aeryn to read English? At least, I think she was looking at his notebook.
