Fractures

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Farscape: Season Three: Fractures
"But you were asleep too! All Hynerians sleep after excessive pleasure"
"Believe me! You were the only one having pleasure"
"YOU WERE FAKING IT?!!"
-- Rygel and Orhnn

SIDE NOTE:
For simplicity's sake, let's rename the prisoners.
The Nebari: "Shim"
The Scarran: "Bob"
The Boolite: "Gooey"
The PK Tech: "Carl"
The Hynerian: "Orhnn" (That's her real name. The only one I can actually remember)

PLOT SUMMARY:
Moya's cruising through space and they pick up a transport pod's signal. They think it's the crew of Talyn. Perhaps Talyn was one of the casualities of the conflict with the retrival squad. But it's really another group of escaped PK prisoners. (Ever notice that out of the entire Moya crew, only two are escaped prisoners. Makes Crichton's opening monologue saying it's full of escaped prisoners kinda pointless.) Anyway, they have a PK Tech as a hostage. They're pod was used as a target for a new weapon but they took control of the pod and escaped. Our ragtag group of prisoners included a Scarran (without heat shields thanks to our PK friends), a she/male Nebari, a Hynerian and a mess of organs that used to be a Boolite. (see above for my new names) Boolites can survive with their organs separated for half a cycle. They try to put him back together again.

Now Talyn shows up. John goes to meet them. He's surprised when no Stark and no Crichton duplicate emerge. He's even more surprised to see Aeryn ignoring him. D'Argo says that Aeryn now thinks of this John as the copy. This is obviously a little unsettling to John.

Rygel finds Ohrnn (the female Hynerian) and they hit it off. They make passionate Hynerian jungle love well into the night. Rygel enjoys having someone think of him as a Dominar again.

Crais gives John Stark's mask. It has a recording that Stark left for Crichton. We never see what the actual message is.

Suddenly, someone sends out a PK distress signal. That's FROM Moya TO the PKs. Not so good. They starburst away.

Someone shoots the Scarran. It's either Ohrnn or Shim. But who?

Chiana takes Shim into hiding and Rygel takes Ohrnn into hiding. They both think that their new friends are innocent.

Then the Boolite gets his act (as well as the rest of him) together and tells the crew that the traitor is Ohrnn. But it's too late. She's got Rygel and released Carl. They get back to their pod and escape. In their escape, they shoot at most of the crew but end up killing the new people. (How convenient)

But not so fast. Crichton, Aeryn, and D'Argo get in D'Argo's spiffy new ship and blast off in chase. They use one of the spears that they used inside the Budong ("What Budong?" says Crichton) and latch onto the pod. They open the hatch and everyone flies out except Rygel. He is rescued.

John is back in his quarters listening to a recording that his double made just before he died. He tells John about the wormhole tech locked in his brain and how Furlow has it now. He basically comes clean on everything that happened on Talyn.

Everyone gathers in Pilot's chambers (It's a Kodak moment. It's one of those staged gatherings that probably wouldn't happen in real life) Crichton informs them that he's going after Scorpius. He's not going to let him destroy the universe using stuff he got out of his brain. Aeryn and Crais go and stand beside him. The three of them are ready to go and kick some Scorpia$$!!!

ANALYSIS:
>> Now that's more like it. The crew reunites. The crew solve a mystery together. All is well.
>> About time Rygel gets some action! :^)
>> Was it really necessary to tell us unnecessary sexual information about that Nebari??
>> And when are they going to explain Chiana's "special gifts"??
>> I liked how they handled the Aeryn/Crichton thing. They weren't too close, but they showed signs of improving by the end of the episode. (Hell, she was ready to go off and die with him)
>> GREAT MOMENT: Crais is shooting at Carl while Jool scurries around the room screetching. They end up on the floor together when a piece of the Boolite's a$$ falls on to them. They both scream in unison.
>> The special effects were a little shoddy this week. Near the beginning, you can clearly tell that D'Argo and Crichton are standing in front of a blue screen. And the thing with Ohrnn floating away was just awful-looking. Even the explosion of the transport pod was kinda cheesy. What the heck happened to those special effects? Did the budget run out?
>> Now the crew's dividing again. Although this seems more like a thing only for the season finale.

NITS:
>> I don't even want to get into how a creature can survive for half a year with his organs all over a room.
>> How did Rygel stay alive in a vacuum? His eyes should have popped out of his head.
>> Is there an episode that goes by where Moya or Talyn DOESN'T get damaged in some way?
>> When did TalynCrichton make this recording?
>> When are they going to put Tammy MacIntosh into the opening credits? It looks like she's there to stay.
>> As stated above, you can tell that Ben and Anthony are in front of a blue screen when viewing the pod on the viewscreen.

FYI:
Did a little research on scifi.com and found out Jool's full name:
JOOLUSHKO TUNAI FENTA HOVALIS
I think I see why she goes by Jool.

NEXT WEEK:
The Farscape Chain Reaction

FOR THE NEXT 4 MONTHS:
Experience Farscape from the beginning. Monday through Thursday every week at 8PM on SciFi Channel. I know I'll be watching. I've never even seen the first dang episode.
And I'm the moderator for cryin' out loud!

I missed what became of Bob. Was he killed or is he still on Moya recovering?

By The Bolian Bada$$ on Monday, August 27, 2001 - 9:20 am:

I think Bob got shot by Carl

We should not have been able to hear Orhnn screaming as she flew out the transport pod. Sound doesn't travel in a vacuum.
Is Gooey still alive? I thought he could survive some pretty tough conditions. Can't they just put him back together again?
Definately don't like the Jool/Pirate look with that eye-patch. I kept expecting her to say "argh ye harties!" But, I must say Jool and Crais seemed to make a good team as they worked on Gooey.

They problem can't change the credits until next season due to SAG regulations

Jool doesn’t choose to go by the name Jool. When she first gave her full name Crichton asked what people called her and she said that she should be addressed by her full name. It was John and subsequently the rest of the crew who promptly shortened it to Jool.

There was rather a touch of “How conveeeeeenient!” about the fact that – of all the races that could have been aboard the escape pod – there just happened to be a Hynerian and a Nebari.

Orhnn just looked silly, IMO – she was so obviously made out of one of the spare models for Rygel and then tarted up with eyelashes and coloured hair that I couldn’t find her in the least bit believable.

And the point of Hubero being androgynous was ...?

I’m confused about which Crichton is the copy. Back in Losing Time, Moya’s Crichton was convinced that he was the copy; why does he now believe that Talyn’s Crichton was?

I groaned at the sight of Aeryn and John rappelling down the rope from D’argo’s ship to the escape pod. There is no down in space! Shouldn’t they have had to pull themselves along?

I assumed that the message Moya’s Crichton got from Talyn’s Crichton came via Stark’s mask, but perhaps not?

I can’t believe they’re breaking the crew up again! For weeks we’ve been looking forward to seeing them back together again and they’re promptly separating again??

Why did the noble warrior D’argo wimp out of such a dangerous mission? Has he lost his bottle?

Rygel & Dargo: Escaped Peacekeeper Prisoners
Chiana: Escaped Nebari Prisoner
Jool: I'd call being locked in a cryo-pod a form of imprisonment, and she certainly wasn't let go willingly by her captors, so one could call her an escaped prisoner
Moya: The Control Collar was used to bind Moya to the will of the Peacekeepers, making her a prisoner of sorts. Collar gone, Moya escaped.

So, if you look at things that way, there's four escaped prisoners aboard Moya, plus Moya herself. Seeing as that would be the majority of the crew, I suppose that could be seen as "a ship full of escaped prisoners.")

I thought it was a bit of the Boolite's face that fell on Jool and Crais, since I think I saw an eye. Also, is either John really a copy? Also, in the last episode, John was lamenting that Aeryn thought of him as the copy, not that he actually was.

By Merat on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 7:28 pm:

One more thing. When D'argo first said the Scarran's name (Nodgill?), did anyone else think he called him Nigel?

By Callie on Thursday, August 15, 2002 - 6:55 am:

It’s not the first time they’ve used human sounding names and made them alien. In Bone to be Wild, I was in fits about the fact that the bad guy sounded like his name was Bernie! I had to check official sites to learn that it was spelled Br’nee. And the female alien was M’Lee which sounded like a slightly truncated version of Emily.

By Josh M on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 10:21 pm:

Neither Crichton was a copy. They are (or were) Crichton, the one we all know and love, except for maybe Aeryn.

And the recording that Stark had was TalynCrichton's message to MoyaCrichton.

I'm assuming he made the recording sometime between blowing up the Scarran ship and dying in Aeryn's arms.
