Crichton Kicks

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Farscape: Season Four: Crichton Kicks
John tries to ascertain the parentage of Aeryn’s baby:
John: Maybe it’s a royal pain in the ass, eats all the time and farts a lot.
Aeryn: Then we’ll know it’s yours.

John is living aboard an old and dying Leviathan called Elack in the ancient burial grounds where he and his friends buried Talyn. He’s been there for some time, if the length of his beard is anything to go by, and has spent the time doing further work on wormholes.
A craft approaches and crashlands inside Elack. On board is Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu (and we thought we had problems with Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis!). She’s followed by Grudeks, collectors of Leviathan neural cluster tissue – or toubray – which many cultures can use to enhance their higher brain functions.
As John tries to prevent the Grudeks from harming Elack, Chiana and Rygel arrive. They’ve had to return because Commandant Grayza has put out Wanted beacons offering enormous rewards for the capture of any of Moya’s crew.

SPOILER ALERT for all in the UK

Well, that was an interesting episode. Though it didn't answer many questions from the last episode of season three, still a good episode. I hope we eventually do find out what happened to Moya and Aerin.

Liked the new intro. Liked the DRD 1812 and John's new, rather insane outlook on life. Really, really liked the Star Trek and Star Wars references concerning the Barrundi (sp?), Barzudi (sp?) (they look like Klingons, John yells at them in Klingon, talk like Yoda they did, etc.)

So, what do TPTB have with red-haired aliens? Yet another one seems poised to join the crew (and another Australian accent! I tell 'ya, Australia was colonized by aliens!).

And how exactly is this Leviathan able to function after its nueral stuff was harvested (and slightly blown up by John)? It's hard for me to believe this guy can still fly to a nearby planet after all damage he sustained.

I'm so glad John lost the beard. I think Ben Browder looked terrible in one.

I'm also glad that Wayne Pygram is still a part of the cast. The show wouldn't be the same without Harvey.

So, cstadulis, are you back in the States or have you found some friends in the FFA who send you live links to wherever you are in Europe?

Whichever it is, you will have to die!! ;-)

"Did she say anything to you before she left?"
"Goodbye, Good luck, and Good riddance."
"That's what you said"
-- Crichton and Rygel

>> At the beginning, Sikozu says that she can only speak a language once she learns it and then has Crichton recite the alphabet and other things. But she can speak fluently with Chiana and Rygel. Did she learn these languages earlier?

>> Why didn't FemalePilot just give Crichton and Co. a transport pod at the end of the episode. Perhaps she doesn't have any.

>> In the last scene on the beach, Aeryn is no longer pregnant and Braka walks up to give her a drink. Symbolism and foreshadowing perhaps?

>> Poor Wayne Pygram. Can you imagine wearing all of that tight leather on a beach?

>> Well, Paul Goddard is not in the opening credits. Does that mean he's not going to show up for awhile?

>> I suspect that Sikozu and Jool may be related in some way. Their physical appearance seems just a little too similar.

>> After Crichton shaves, there's a line of hair going around his face where the beard used to be. This line later disappears.

>> The one Klingon starts speaking in Yoda talk at one point for some reason. This was not heard previously and he stops doing it fairly soon. Was this just a homage to Star Wars?

>> How is it that our heroes can see the bad guys at several points in the episode, but the bad guys can never see them?

>> Even though Chiana slowed down time for herself, why did the Klingons still miss? She wasn't that far away.

>> This goes into the "And I Thought I'd Seen Everything" category: Crichton baaaaaing like a sheep and slapping his a$$ trying to lure the creature out into space.

>> Any thoughts on why Grayza put out a bounty on our heroes? Last time we saw her, she didn't seem to care much about Crichton. She thought the wormhole technology was a waste of time.

Great to have Farscape back.

See ya later

To Callie: Unfortunately, I lost my job in Europe (actually, the lady who got pregnant who I replaced while she was on maternity leave decided to come back), so I'm back in the States, living in my parents basement, trying to find a new job. Is that pathetic or what? At least I can see new episodes of Farscape (ha, ha!).

As for the similarities between Sputnik and Jool, I agree with TUE. They are quite similar in appearance (let's just hope that Sputnik doesn't start screaming!).

Obviously, the Klingons attended the Stormtrooper Academy for Missing Targets at Close Range.

Also, after John got bit, he seemed to recover VERY quickly. After all, part of his leg got chomped and yet he was still able to dart around the leviathan as if nothing was wrong. That scene with him taunting the "dog," though, was absolutely hilarious.

By SlinkyJ on Monday, June 10, 2002 - 4:28 pm:

One of those 'Klingon' guys reminds me of the lead Klingon prison warden on Rura Penthe in "The Undiscovered Country". Could he be the same actor, and is this why those guys remind everyone of Klingons???

Yea, I thought the 'baaaaing' and A$$ slapping from Cricton was a new one.

By Scott Failed Wormholes 101 McClenny on Monday, June 10, 2002 - 7:07 pm:

I think the Klingon thing was part of Farscapes
on going jab at Star Trek. Now if we had someone
who KNOWS Klingon who could tell us what Chricton
ACTUALLY said..:)

The indeed pirates like Klingons look out with
ridges.

So what's wrong with red headed aliens?

Anyone else notice that in the first dream sequences on the beach Aeryn is definitely pregnant, but in the last scene when Crichton decides to say goodbye she is very flat stomached?

Crichton's tv habits must have also included
Baywatch as he refers to the show in his initial
conversation with "Harvey" Scorpius.

By cstadulis on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 - 11:29 am:

There's nothing wrong with red-headed aliens, it's just that this one seems to be an obvious Jool-clone. Now, maybe it's intentional and will be explained in future episodes, but to me it seems like she's just another know-everything/doesn't know anything-whiny-girl-with-issues. The crew already has one of these in Jool. Why do we need another one?

By mei on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 11:46 am:

Okay, so I don't remember. Who's Paul Goddard?

By Em on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 1:14 pm:

The reason I think that Aeryn wasn't pregnant in the last sequence was because Crichton said he wasn't going to live in a dream any more and so he got rid of that particular dream...does that make any sense?

By Callie Sullivan on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 4:54 pm:

mei - Paul Goddard plays Stark.

By SpottedKitty on Friday, June 21, 2002 - 10:28 am:

Hmmss..not sure what to make of this ep meself. Can’t say wither I like it or don’t like it at the moment. It's different, I'll grant you that...

It would have been nice to see how John actually met up with this Leviathan. OK, so we know he came here to die...but still, starting John off relatively safe and sound after the climax of season 3 was somehow disappointing.

Eh, overall it was an alright start I guess.

By Merat on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 11:30 pm:

That Klingon warden would be W. Morgan Shepard, but I didn't see his name in the credits. He also played the more insane of the two Soul Hunters in the Babylon 5 episode "Soul Hunter" as well as a Narn captain in another episode. He was also the Hologram in SeaQuest and Dr. Ira Graves on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He is a very good actor.

By Callie on Monday, September 23, 2002 - 3:36 pm:

The fireworks ending to the 1812 Overture was cute, if perhaps a little predictable.

Did Sikozu give her name to John and, if so, why was it such a shocking scene that the BBC had to cut it?! The first we knew of her name was when John started calling her Sputnik.

Once again the dedicated Wayne Pygram squeezes into the Scorpius outfit for just a few seconds of air time!

Is Aeryn carrying twins? She’s enormous!!

Is there a scene mising between Sikozu getting her hand ripped off and John shaving? The jump to that first scene with Chiana and Rygel seemed clumsy. And was Rygel’s bad eye explained?

When Sikozu retrieves her hand, although we don’t actually see it, from the look of satisfaction and relief on her face it seems like she jams it onto the end of her arm. But she had bandages on – or had she left the end open?

Why does John think the rest of his friends are on a particular planet?

TUE: why did you think the guy who brought the drink to Aeryn was Braca?

By The Undesirable Element on Monday, September 23, 2002 - 5:21 pm:

I think it was Braca. I'm not sure. Been a few months since I've seen that episode.

By Summerfield on Saturday, August 09, 2003 - 5:35 pm:

"What kind of currency do you have in your pocket!?" - Sikozu

Not only a good line, but the irony serves John right after being mistaken for a Peacekeeper for years.

By Josh M on Sunday, August 10, 2003 - 1:16 am:

Yeah, poor Wayne. Running on the beach in full makeup. Ouch.

That was Brakka? (Braca? Bracka? Braka? i don't know) hmm, if it was, i didn't realize it.

I think that Rygel's bad eye had to do with what Chiana said about being arrested and the guards "having fun." Chiana appeared to have some bruising as well.

By Josh M on Sunday, August 10, 2003 - 10:53 pm:

BTW, in the last issue of Farscape magazine, in the episode guide, there is a note on this episode that says that what Crichton said really was Klingon. Loosely translated it means "get the frell off of my ship."

By BrianA on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - 9:19 am:

I do not believe the man on the beach was Braca. Crichton took his snowcone though. :)

By Ephiny on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 10:44 pm:

In closed captioning, it was funny that Chi called Sikozu, "Psycho-zoo".
