Bringing Home the Beacon

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Farscape: Season Four: Bringing Home the Beacon
Sikozu: “Do you have any plan of escape?”
Aeryn: “Run.”
Sikozu: “Anything more detailed, Aeryn?”
Aeryn: “Run quickly.”

Noranti: “Preparing Mayla spores takes time … and spit.”
Aeryn: “We never have enough time.”
Noranti: “I don’t have enough spit.”

While trying to acquire a sensor distorter for Moya, Aeryn and Sikozu find themselves spying on a meeting between Grayza and a Scarran War Minister. Their plans to divide up the territories will make at least one member of Moya extremely unhappy.

The ‘previously’ bit at the beginning shows Scorpius telling Braca to delay Grayza making any deal with the Scarrans. He wasn’t doing a very good job here!

Was it just me or did Rekka’s assistant look remarkably like Red Dwarf’s Ace Rimmer?!

Chiana is given green skin and red hair and suddenly she’s unrecognisable?!! Braca saw enough of her when she was on the Command Carrier that surely he should have recognised her.

Did anyone watching think for even a second that that was the real Aeryn?!

Can Scarran Dreadnoughts travel significantly faster than Peacekeeper vessels? I don’t recall a Peacekeeper ship ever being able to keep up with a starbursting Leviathan, even if they did have a homing beacon to send them in the right direction.

How did the bioloid know that it should flirt with John but not know about the baby?

Why couldn’t ‘Aeryn’ say “baby”? Had John switched to English? It wasn’t made clear.

Why would a Scarran ore vessel be afraid that a Leviathan was going to board it? It didn’t sound like a very convincing tale that Sikozu told the Dreadnought, yet conveniently they bought it.

It looks like this is the first episode of the run to the finale. I reckon it’ll all be cliffhanger episodes from here on in.

Another rant about translator microbes: I now realise that John didn’t switch to English because he never stopped talking English. But thanks to the translator microbes, Aeryn (the real Aeryn, I mean!) hears John speak in Sebacean; Chiana hears him speaking in Nebari, Rygel in Hynerian etc. Likewise, Aeryn is speaking in Sebacean, Chiana in Nebari and Rygel in Hynerian but John (and therefore we the viewers) hears everyone speaking English. So what was all that “Say ‘baby’, Aeryn,” routine in this episode? And why won’t translator microbes translate the Scarran mother tongue?

Callie, I'd agree with you but for one thing. I'm assuming that the translator microbes make the voice sound different somehow...Or, at best, the lips don't sync with what's being said (the lips only sync for us through the magic of television!) so it's obvious when someone isn't speaking in their own language...
Taking that into account, listen to Aeryn on nearly every other episode where she's spoken English. It sounds different than she normally sounds. Of course, that doesn't explain why the Fake-Aeryn didn't just say 'baby' in Sebacean.

I agree with you about Chiana though...blue skin and red hair does /not/ constitute "camouflage" in my mind. ^_^

One thing to say - don't mess with Granny!

From what I've read, they tried a more disguisey disguise on Chiana and no one on set recognized that it was her, so it was changed to something much less drastic.
