Just so everyone knows, Farscape is being broadcast again at Midnight EST on Sci Fi. I saw the pilot episode last night.
Which leads me to ask the question - why would Sci Fi cancel the show, give it absolutely no support when it was on, then rebroadcast it?
Why not show reruns? It's the same reason they show Star Trek reruns.q
Because then they don't have to pay anyone to fill the time slot, since they already own the first four seasons. Also, they don't have to worry about finding really good sponsors for midnight ads.
Josh,
What I was surprised about was that given the way Sci Fi treated the show - thank you for coming, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out - that they would rerun the episodes.
Cstadulis, I agree with you.
Good to see Zhaan again, though.
I think most tv execs feel that if you have a show, regardless of what's happened to it since it first started on your network or how you personally feel about it, running repeats of it is still the cheapest way to fill a time slot. Considering many cable networks still use infomercials to fill time from midnight to 8 a.m., Sci-Fi probably thinks running Farscape repeats might bring in more of the late-night crowd. Of course, most shows would not find a midnight time slot to be a great place, even for reruns, so maybe Sci-Fi really is showing us how it feels about Farscape.
You are probably right, Cstadulis
BTW, Sci-Fi recently stopped showing reruns five nights a week and is now only showing them every Sunday night (Monday morning?) at 12 EST.
For any Brits interested, BBC2 are currently showing Season 3 in the very early hours of Monday mornings (or very late on Sunday nights if you're looking at the TV guides).
