As a devoted fan of this series, one of the revolutionary aspects to this show's production was its use of animatronic puppets & body suits to depict alien life forms. As wonderful as prosthetic make-up is on actors & how far it has come, this approach was quite innovative.Other SF TV series would employee body suits such as Star Trek's Gorn from Arena, but the majority of aliens on the various TV series was done by placing make-up upon an actor.I don't think any used puppets until Farcape came along. And they did it brilliantly.By using puppets or all encompising body suits, they could depict truly strange aliens. No matter how terrific make-up is on an actor,it still is a case of an alien which is humanoid & aside from their face,is similar to a human being. But Farscape broke that mold & gave us aliens that were vastly different looking from humans. Its just one of the aspects that made this an incredible show!!!

Not quite. That insectoid mob boss fellow whose name I can't recall from Babylon 5 was a puppet. Though admittedly his rig wasn't quite as elaborate as that of Pilot's or Rygel's.
