Feeling alienated from the rest of the crew, John takes Farscape 1 out for a drive. While he’s still out, Moya starbursts as a complication of her pregnancy. A quarter of a cycle later (three months), John is living on an Earth-like planet and has made an uneasy friendship with the local tribal people whose ancestors were space travellers who colonised the planet. The chieftain’s daughter Lashala has a thing for John, to the pique of the top hunter Rokon and his mother, the high priestess. Having finally arrived back in the area, Rygel and D’Argo take a pod to the planet, crash landing when the pod loses power. Shortly afterwards, Rygel’s hoverchair stops working and D’Argo’s qualtar blade won’t function; and back on Moya Aeryn and Zhaan can’t track anything on the planet. A jealous Rokon, along with some friends, tries to kill John but D’Argo arrives in time to rescue him. The two of them are taken before the tribe for attacking the leader’s personal guard but when Rygel appears, the tribe fall to their knees in worship. He resembles a statue set up by their ancestors and the tribe believe him to be their messiah who – according to ancient prophecy – will “rise up and lead them to the light.” Rygel, of course, does nothing to dissuade them from their belief in him as a god. However, when he can’t meet the terms of the prophecy he’s declared a false god and prepared for death. John spots Hynerian handprints at the bottom of the statue and presses Rygel’s hands against them, which deactivates the source of the planet-wide power drain. Rygel’s hoverchair starts to work and Rygel rises up above the people, meeting the terms of the prophecy. The tribe now have their energy source back and can live a better life, while John, Rygel and D’Argo return to Moya. Synopsis by Callie Sullivan.
