Max is one of the early genetically-engineered children from "Project Manticore." She was one of the few survivors of an escape attempt by the children in 2009.

-She suffers from seizures, which have plagued her her entire life. She uses Triptophane pills to control them. They are caused by a lack of Serotonin in her blood, which is supposed to act as a nerve impluse transmitter.

-She goes into "heat" 3 times a year, due to the small amounts of feline DNA she was born with.

-She has a barcode on her neck (her number is 332960073452), which all the children in the lab had for identification purposes.

-She and the other children (aka transgenics) were called "Chimeras."

-Max's roommate was Kendra. She taught Japanese culture classes for young children. She left to live with her boyfriend, the crooked cop Walter, before the events of "The Kidz Are Aiight." Soon after, Max's best friend, Original Cindy, took her place.

-What we know about the other children:
-Project Manticore was still operational up until the events of "Designate This." Most of it's current members were working to find the children who escaped from Manticore (Group X-5, Manticore Stage 3)in 2009. The X-7's, advanced X units, were being trained there.

-"That Day" was a Manticore training run. The X-5's were made to pursue a death row inmate through the woods near Manticore. If the man made it, he would be free (supposedly). He didn't have a chance against the X-5's. Among the most brutal attackers were Ben and Max. While Max was frightened to remember that day, Ben embraced the feeling of doing what he "was made to do," hunt and kill ("Pollo Loco").

-During and after the events of "The Kidz Are Aiight," most of the X-5's escaped from their regular living situation after their situation was compromised by Lydecker. Eyes Only alerted them to this fact.

-Many of the X-2's failed and were jailed at Manticore. Their appearances were grotesque, and their living situation was viscous. They fightened the X-5's, who called them "'nomalies" and made up stories about their kidnapping and killing the normal X children.

-Several anomalies, (genetic experiments that had too much animal DNA in them) including Joshua, were imprisoned in the subterrainian area of Manticore. They were freed by Max in "Designate This".

-Apparently, a man only known as "Sandman" is the father of all the transgenics in Manticore.

-Zack: See his section.

-Jase: She refused to escape with Max and the others in 2009. She was taught to hate and hunt down all the escapees, but Max turned her around in "Female Trouble." She was pregnant at the time, by a a lab tech named Victor at Manticore. She escaped to Mexico, and promised to name her baby, boy or girl, "Max."

-Brin: Max and Zack rescued her when she was kidnapped for sale on the black market. She was suffering from a genetic anomaly which rapidly aged her genes. Max and Zack made the painful decision to send her back to Manticore, where she recieved treatment. She was brainwashed into believeing Manticore is a place of greatness. Soon after, she was hired by Lydecker to kidnap Tinga ("Hit A Sista Back"). Lydecker thought she failed, but she had actually succeeded. She was secretly working for Madame X and her organization in Manticore before it's destruction.

-Ben: He originated the stories about the 'nomalies. He was especially fearful of them, because he believed that if a Manticore doctor saw him having a seizure, Ben would be sent to the 'nomalies. He was given an image of the Virgin Mary by a janitor at Manticore, during one of these seizures. He believed that by killing people and displaying their extracted teeth to the image, the "lady" would protect him and his family from the 'nomalies. In "Pollo Loco," Max finds out he has hunted down and killed two men. Ben told her he did it not because of insanity, but because it's what the Manticore children were taught to do (hunt, kill, etc.). He also planned to hunt and kill a Father from a church, but was stopped by Max. He died after a fight with Max.

-Tenga: Lived in Portland, and worked as a baker. She was almost caught by Lydecker when Zack escaped from Manticore ("The Kidz Are Aiight"), but was saved by Max and Zack. Escaped with Zack (and most of the other X-5's) to Canada. In "Hit A Sista Back," we learn that she has a husband (Charlie) and son (Case). Lydecker launched a plan to kidnap Tinga (since her son exhibited qualities of genetic enhancement, and he wanted her to make more children), but "failed." In actuality, Tinga was kidnapped by Brin and taken to Madame X's secret lab in Manticore. Her family escaped to the east coast. Tinga died after being freed from the holding cell in "Meow."

-Jondi: Lived in S.F., near the Golden Gate bridge.

-Zane: Lived in L.A. Worked as a mechanic.

-Eva: One of Max's best friends at Manticore. She was shot and killed by Lydecker before the 2009 escape.

-Krit, Syl: Seen in "And Jesus Brought A Casserole."

-Johnny: I'm not sure if this is another X-5, or if she said "Jondi." You can hear the name in the opening monologue of "Pilot."

-Alec: Another version of Ben. He was paired up with Max for breeding in "Designate This," but when she refused, he agreed. He only let her escape to infect Logan with a virus, which she found the cure for later on. His loyalty was with Manticore up until it's destruction, but after Max saved his life in "Proof of Purchase," Alec decided to help her. He works at Jam Pony. In "The Berrisford Agenda," the painful events of his first deep-cover mission come back to haunt him.

-Brain: An I.T. concentrate, plump and designed to be forgettable. He is able to predict outcomes and circumstances using probability algorithms. He was at Manticore and wanted to get together with Max, but the escape in 2009 stopped that plan. He got back together with her in 2020, helping her stop a turncoat in the S1W but he sacrificed himself in the process (see "Brainiac").

Oh dear. The second episodes revelation about Max's being in "Heat" three times a year has got me hearing the clickety-clack of the fan-fiction authors keyboards. That's just asking for sexually explicit stories.

I'll say, nothing like different sex cycles to get fanfic writers going. Of course, I look forward to reading them.

I wonder if that will be explored again never, only when the writers feel like it, or on a regular basis. My guess (and I can't really say I'm upset about this, except for continuity's sake) is one of the first two. Can we all say obvious plot device? I think the writers opened up another "he's dead Jim, look my tricorder says so"(Trek in-nit: are tricorders accurate when it comes to dead people?) can of worms on this one. That or Cameron has seen "Amok Time" way too often.

It's a good way to keep that important 18-34 year old male demographic watching though. I mean, they could get creative with the idea- since she's an experimental soldier they don't know how bad the side effects of the DNA tampering might be. Perhaps as she gets older the effects will get worse and she'll be horny all the time. Then she'll have to fight bad guys and her own hormones at the same time!
