Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Dark Angel: Season 1: Prodigy (Max saves a boy who is being held hosatge)
"She was designed to be the perfect soldier. She was trained as a weapon. But then she escaped. They came after her, and she knew they would never stop looking. She was lucky...a few months later, terrorists set off an electro-magnetic pulse that fried all the computers. The U.S. went from superpower to third-world country overnight. It was easy to disappear. Now she has an unlikely ally. Logan Cale, underground cyber-journalist and crusader. He wants to save the world, or what's left of it. She just wants to find the others like her. Together...who knows?"

When Max learns that a conference is going to take place featuring Dr. Tanaka, a man at the forefront of genetic research, she decides to attend. Disguised as journalist "Rachel Glasser," Max is surprised when Lydecker sits next to her. During the presentations (showcasing a boy named Jude who was revived from near-death as a baby and now performs amazing acts for the doctor), a terrorist group called the "Outlaws May 22nd Movement Team" (named after the birthday of the unabomber) takes the attendees hostage. Logan knows their leader, Darius, and tries to negotiate. When the military gets involved, however, the negotiations fail, and it's up to Max to stop the terrorists. In the process, Max saves the little boy, and has her chance to kill Lydecker once and for all.

THOUGHTS
-Nice episode, especially the interactions between Lydecker/"Rachel Glasser."

-Max has one AWESOME hairdo during her impersonation. Purdy!

-I liked the arguments Max and Logan had after Logan struggled to get into his wheelchair (he's just trying to be macho!).

-During the Thanksgiving Day football game on FOX (Dallas VS Minnesota I think), John Madden commented on how Triptophane is the stuff in turkeys that makes people sleepy! (Hmm...maybe Max should lay off the pills and just eat turkey all day?)

FAVORITE QUOTE
"You're such a gentleman. Too bad I'm not a lady!"
-Max to a guard.

NITS
-So there's no toothpaste available in Seattle, but all the main characters wear (mostly) nice, clean clothes?

-Max, even with her acute senses, couldn't hear Logan struggle into his wheelchair when she comes into his apartment.

-Logan arrives at the same time the female hostages are being loaded into a military truck. One of the cops says it's a dangerous area. So why is the military letting all those bystanders (including Original Cindy and the gang) stand so close to the hotel?

-Pretty convenient there was a window for Max and Logan to swing through when the terrorists cut their rope on the roof!

*
-Did anyone notice that during the Victoria's Secret commercial, the theme of Rachel's love song from the movie "Blade Runner" was the background music? (Okay, now I'm just wasting time!)

Yes, it was the love theme from Blade Runner. I caught that too.

If you're looking closely you can see a phone in the hotel that doesn't belong there. It's a Telus payphone, found only in British Columbia! You can tell from the yellow on coin box... it's one of the new phones with the fancy display. It just plain shouldn't be there because a phone like that would have been toasted by the EMP. Perhaps Vancouver wasn't affected and Telus sold a bunch of their old phones to Seattle? (The real explantion for this one is quite simple- the series is filmed in Vancouver!)

BTW, it's a spliff, not a swift. And I thought the line about "no stranger to stoner logic" was hilarious. But Herbal isn't a stoner- he's a rastafarian!

WIDARON: Did that jump off the roof remind anyone of "Die Hard"?

This episode has me convinced that Lydecker is a soldier. Just look at the way the soldier reacts when he sees Lydecker's ID card. He goes into ramrod-straight posture and repeatedly addresses him as "sir." Now I know military policy is to address anyone as "sir" when in doubt but I don't think there's anything in there about coming to attention for civilians!

I could be mistaken, but don't soldiers usually come to attention for Presidents and Ambassadors and possibly other high ranking civillian goverment officals.

Except for the President*, soldiers only come to attention in front of higher ranking officers, because it´s only military personel who outrank them that can give them orders and command them.

*The fact that soldiers come to attention in front of the President has to do with him being the highest military commander.

But I have to say that I´m rather disapointed that Lydecker, this ultimate cool-guy, get knocked down by some B-terrorist at the end of the episode. I always thought of him as a person that could handle every situation.

Don't forget that he received a bang on his head before. The resulting headache probably distracted him too much.
