Out (Logan is kidnapped while Max must save kidnapped girls)

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Dark Angel: Season 1: Out (Logan is kidnapped while Max must save kidnapped girls)
"She was designed to be the perfect soldier. She was trained as a weapon. But then she escaped. They came after her, and she knew they would never stop looking. She was lucky...a few months later, terrorists set off an electro-magnetic pulse that fried all the computers. The U.S. went from superpower to third-world country overnight. It was easy to disappear. Now she has an unlikely ally. Logan Cale, underground cyber-journalist and crusader. He wants to save the world, or what's left of it. She just wants to find the others like her. Together...who knows?"

Logan's sources give him a new lead on Gearhart Bronk, a smuggler working out of an abandoned airfield. When Logan learns that a shipment is going out later on that night, he is forced to cancel his dinner with Max, which Max prepared for meticulously. Max doesn't get far in her surveillance, and ends up falling in a pool of mud for her troubles. Afterwards, she angrily cuts off her dealings with both Eyes Only and with Logan. Soon, Logan is kidnapped by Bronk's men, who were tipped off by following Song, the Korean cop who is 'righteous.' After torturing Song, Logan reveals that he is Eyes Only. Meanwhile, Max sees some young girls getting loaded into a van by the same men who chased her at the airfield, only this time they are wearing police outfits. She finds out about Logan's kidnapping and uses his computer to call his cell phone and fool Bronk's men into thinking Logan really isn't Eyes Only. She plays back the recording of the call, and sifts through the background noise to find out which airfield Bronk and his men are making their last shipment. She gets there in time to save Logan and Song, and stop Bronk and his shipment. Logan later finds out that Brock was shipping the girls for bidding for Brothels in the far-east. Max reconciles with Logan in the end, and joins him for dinner.

THOUGHTS
-Another nice episode, some slow spots but overall good.

-Max in a towel? WOW.

FAVORITE QUOTE
"She's female... in case you hadn't noticed."
-Bling, responding to Logan's saying that Max will understand his brushing her off.

NITS
-Why did Max waste time getting the gum at the beginning?

-And why would she pop it if she knew the bad guys were in range?

-After hearing the gum pop, the bad guys chase Max. She is running more or less straight. They are shooting at her. Why can't they hit her?

-So Max falls in a pool of mud. Then she gets into Logan's vehicle. I know she's angry, but how much do you think it will cost poor Logan to clean the upholstery and get the smell out?

-After getting off work, Max sees the bad guys putting the girls in the van. Problems:
-Max walks out of Jam Pony and goes to her motorcycle. In this war-torn, impoverished environment, no one would steal her 'cycle?
-They just happened to load them RIGHT IN FRONT OF MAX!
-And on a clearly public street!
-And in broad daylight!
-And the girls aren't tied up or gagged!
-And no one else seems to care about these girls!

-Logan gets smacked around a lot by Bronk but his glasses always seem to be on straight and clean.

-And if Bronk wants to see if Logan is really Eyes Only, why doesn't he just take off Logan's glasses and use a cut-out to look at Logan's eyes?

-Shouldn't Logan have some anti-tracking software on his Eyes Only computers? In his broadcasts, he always says he can't be traced, but in this ep, Max calls Bronk from Logan's computer and it's traced.

The 47s continue in this series as well. Normal's date lived at 4711 King Street.

Well this was the first new episode of the new year, and it seems to be a new year in the series as well. Normal told his date that it's 2020. This of course creates a problem during the opening introduction, which still identifies the year as 2019. Picky, picky.

The two scenes with the thugs were absolutely hilarious. When Bronk's goons showed up at their club, expecting to find Eyes Only, and instead finding 20 guys with guns, I was laughing my head off. I knew they had to have put that earlier scene with the finger in for a reason. At the time, it just seemed like padding, but when Max used those guys again, it worked beautifully. Kudos.

I guess Apple's gonna keep their Cube and monitor designs for at least 2 more decades, huh? I can only wonder how much faster they're gonna be then.

Just a few observations:

Normal's dream date seemed to be a plotline pinched from Ally McBeal. And what's with all the trans-sexuals on TV recently?

Speaking of Normal's date: Maybe things change a lot between now and 2020 but good wine shouldn't be the color of URINE!

Why did the gangsta doorman let Max and whatshisface in? Why didn't he just call his boss to the door instead?

That's all I can think of for this week. Next week, it looks like Manticore vs. Manticore!

Why did Louise keep her male driver's license?

Normal seemed pretty hip to Louise having had
been Louis before, too bad Louise decided that
she was a lesbian.
(Which was pretty confusing if you stop to think
about it.)

When Max is at the airfield the first time she
picks up the magazine and looks at it and then
puts it back down.Wouldn't the magazines have
been a clue as to what Bonk was up to?

The episode begins and ends around Max and
Logan having dinner together,so I wonder if
the B story about Normal's date was meant as
a contrast.
