Meow (The heat hits Max again, and Madame X plots against Lydecker)

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Dark Angel: Season 1: Meow (The heat hits Max again, and Madame X plots against Lydecker)
Logan asks Max to recover a chip from a nuclear facility. He tells Max it's being used by Limpkin to get control of the Star Wars defense mission, but in reality, it's for Logan's exoskeleton. Meanwhile, Max goes through heat again. Luckily, Original Cindy helps her through most of it. Soon, Max gets the chip for Logan. He plans to surprise Max on their "one-year anniversay." Unfortunately, the heat overpowers Max, and she has sex with a "hot boy." She feels awful about it, but Logan forgives her, and they finally kiss.
At the same time all this is going on, Madame X has ruined Lydecker's reputation in the Manticore committee. She has blamed the "escape" of Tinga on him. Soon, Lydecker does some snooping around, and finds out Madame X's deceit. He knows that Brin and Sandoval are working against him, as well. Lydecker plants a bug on Sandoval and learns that Madame X plans on "containing" Lycecker by using one of the killer hoverdrones (See "I and I Am A Camera"). Lydecker turns the tables, though, and has the hoverdrone kill Sandoval instead. Meanwhile, Lydecker has set up a trade with a man named Zigs. Zigs will track down Max and offer Lydecker the neural implant technology (See "Red") in return for some genetic data from some early Manticore tests. Madame X tries to take over the operation, but Lydecker continues with his plans.
Zack, meanwhile, has been following Madame X. He knows the location of the silo where Tinga is being held, so he gets Max to help him get Tinga out. Everything goes well, until Zigs and his men lock onto Max's location. Lydecker calls his troops and finds out where Madame X's secret facility is. Zack is shot and has to retreat, but Max remains and breaks the container holding Tinga. Lydecker and his men burst in as Max holds Tinga in her arms.

THOUGHTS
-Like I always say, the continuity in this series is amazing. This episode alone has references to many other episodes.

-As for the ep itself, it's really one of the best so far. Powerful moments with Max's breakdown, and comedy and romance to boot.

-Jessica Alba did a great job throughout the episode.

-I also liked the way the music changed, stopped, sped up and slowed down right at the perfect times.

FAVORITE QUOTE
"This isn't Manticore. This is me."
-Max to Logan, finally admitting her love for him.

NITS
-That chip was WAY too easy for Max to steal.

-The hoverdrone in his ep looks different from the one in "I and I Am A Camera."

-How could Lydecker put Sandoval's picture into the hoverdrone if Madame X was in control of it?

-The soldier Lycecker talks to is the same one who was in Max's dream! (This might not be a nit, since she has a photographic memory)

-Shouldn't the contianer holding Tinga be made of something sturdier than glass? (Reminds me of the coolant tanks in "Star Trek: First Contact.")

I was rather impressed with this episode, aside from the PAL preview for it.

This was one fast paced piece of television, just when I thought the show was about over I realized it was only 9:30.

I'm glad that we'll get a conclusion or a continuation of this next week instead of in a few months.

Lydecker goes from being a spy back to being a soldier again! (One of the soldiers refers to him as "colonel")

Wouldn't it be funny if Madame X was a colonel too?

I thought the scene with Max getting all hot and bothered over Normal was hilarious.

Ditto the scene with Sketchy and Original Cindy.

Was it just me or were there a lot of envelope pushing sexual references in this episode? "Did anyone order a large sausage?"

Max gets through the sector border by showing her Jam Pony pass. However, in earlier episodes, she left the sector by running the roadblack. There are a few issues here: one, Jam Pony is a bicycle courier company. Two, they seem to only work during the day. So wouldn't it be strange if a messenger from this company showed up at night on a motorbike? But they let her through without question. Also, wouldn't there be an alert posted for a young leather-clad woman on a motorcycle who has already run several roadblocks?

I was almost certain that there would be somekinda consequences to Max removing the processor from the nuclear facility. After all, it looked like they were doing something important when she interrupted them!

It was good to see badass Lydecker again!

On that note, Dark Angel seems to believe the Clark Kent Principle: add or remove a pair of glasses and no one will recognize you! (Lydecker does it to confuse the hoverdrone and Logan does it all the time with Eyes Only)

That Zack sure has bad timing, doesn't he?

Well, it'll be interesting to see what happens next week.

I really didn't expect to like this episode but it ended up being very good. It had a dash of every kind of episode you can write and it was nice to see jessica alba get a chance to show off her acting skills. I can't wait until next week:)

In the "previously on Dark Angel" sequence before the teaser, the audio of Lydecker actually comes from this episode, when he asks the Red dude how Max got an implant in her neck.

And this was the second episode where there was no "she was designed to be the perfect soldier" routine before the teaser.

Just to clearify one thing. It's been a year since Max and Logan first met, however, they've only been hanging out together for nine months. She stayed away from him for three months after the action in "Pilot."

As part of his plan to get the chip without telling Max what it will be used for, Logan tells her a tale of having to keep it out of the hands of the Taliban. Guess they get resurrected sometime in the next 15 years. Either that, or Max ain't up on history.
