The Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Authoritative Works of Trek: Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual

This is the best guide to the NCC-1701-D ever published. Written by Okuda and Sternbach, this is a system by system handbook of all of the Enterprise-D's functions.

Definately an awesome book, I really loved the detail and so on. I've said this before, but they need to get a really good one on the Enterprise-E,
certainly my favorite Enterprise yet.

We'll forget the Melbourne/Melbourne problem.

"Melbourne/Melbourne" sounds like the title of a musical, IMHO :)

By Adam Howarter on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 4:42 pm:

Could be. You do know what the Melbourne/Melbourne nit is don't you?

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Friday, March 05, 1999 - 11:12 am:

Melbourne, Melbourne, The Starship so nice they named it twice.

Seriously, in BOBW Melbourne was Excelsior-class; in "Emissary" (DS9) it was Nebula-class. Possible explanation of the nit--Emissary is in flashbacks, so possibly Sisko helped build/design the Nebula-class and forgot about the Excelsior-class.

Wrong way round, Ccabe.

Re:Page 11; diagram 1.3.7. USS Enterprise starboard elevation, section at centerline. In the Main Shuttlebay a sportscar is parked, 2 decks below a large rat lurks, across from MSB there is an equally large ducky, and further along the deck an airplane rests. However there are two more things I can't quite make out. Between the ducky and the plane there's an outline drawing of something, and diagonaly between the rat and the ducky there's a sign with 3 words on it. Anyone out there have a powerful enough magnifier to see these things clearly? What are they and what does the sign say? Thanks in advance.

They've always been on the MSD, it's mentioned in the Encyclopaedia. Nomad can be seen, and a treadmill, and the words, I believe, are "Slippery when wet".

I know that there's a hampster on a treadmill powering the warp drive in there somewhere too. I think its towards the back of the ship.

Loved the book. One of the best of the AWoTs. I liked the titbit of the "infinite improbability drive" in the chapter on impulse engines (I think - it's been a while since I've read it). Wonder why no-one had any reason for someone to use the drive. And if anyone bruised their upper arm?

I'm sure they used it...but then a million vats of custard upended themselves and flooded everyone off the bridge.
