Bob Mathias was cool, and was a realistic character to have; it made Medical Center more like a real place, unlike a certain starship with a ship's doctor who does almost all of the medical work.
Tanya Alexander/Alexandria, what is your last name? (And don't say Roquette, everyone. )
The security guard that's in nearly every episode. I guess he isn't a major regular, but certainly he deserves mention.
Would the tall, dark haired, yellow-sleeved guy in Main Mission get an honourable mention, since he's also in nearly every episode, and even gets a red sleeve by the end of Season 1? OK, I didn't think so.
I think it's Tanya Alexander. I have the Region 2 DVD's and I think that's what she introduces herself as to Koenig. I'll check and get back to you on that.
And don't forget "Operative Kate," played by Sarah Bullen, who appeared in a number of year one and year two episodes.
Officially, it's Alexander, but in "Breakaway," she pronounces it Alexandria, at least on my Region 1 DVD.
Ah, Kate! How could I have forgotten her, since I notice her every time she's onscreen? Thanks for the reminder.
By the way, a few years ago I wrote a Season 1 short story about an Eagle pilot whose Eagle crashed on the lunar surface, but he walked away virtually unhurt. (Carter's not the only lucky pilot, darn it!) The story tried to put into words the hyper-aware "slow motion effect" that occurs from the point of view of someone involved in an accident. (I'm writing from experience, but not from crashing a real Eagle, of course!) The story was actually the prologue for a novella that would have dealt with the pilot's wanting to get back in the sky, his wife's concern over his safety (she's a ground crew member in the hangers, and no fault could be found with the crashed Eagle itself), and of course the other Alphans' struggle with the thing that was causing the malfunction.
The reason I bring all this up here is that all the characters I used in the short story were secondary; not one main character appears as the pilot sends out his distress call and crashes. I had Winters as controller in Main Mission, with Tanya filling Kano's role relaying data. Dr. Mathias ordered Medical to standby to receive a casualty and took a mobile team to with him to board a rescue Eagle. Of course, the pilot was my own creation. The series regulars would have appeared in the next chapter, but it was fun giving the secondaries a moment in the spotlight.
Another by the way: I'm sort of completing the story in the form of a daily comic strip for some elementary school students (and one teacher). Keeping the flame lit, so to speak.
how about Yasko? How come there isn't more traffic about Yasko? She really made the Command Centre tick...she deserves more mention!
Yes, she made it tick - like a bomb :P
Dr. Bob Mathias in series one and a couple of series two episodes ws much more beleivable as Helena's sidekick than all the nobodies who fllowed. Towards the end of series two, it just seemed that anyone could be the secondary doctor on Alpha, as it became more or less Doctor of the week.
There was only Raul in Mark of Archanon, Ben Vincent in about 5 episodes, and Ed Spencer in Dorzak, Devils Planet, and Immunity Syndrome. Ed is probably my fav.
And presumably Blake Maine in "Devil's Planet," for the all of ten minutes he's around before he gets killed.
Ed was still senior medical chappy in that ep, cos Helena wasn't there.
I still would've liked to see Comissioner Simmonds as a recurring guest throughout year one, the mistrustful naysayer suspicious of any alien influence they come across. He could even be right about this on occasions like "The Infernal Machine" and "The Last Enemy". He needn't be the complete ssahole he was in "Earthbound".
I would assume for a base of 300 people you'd have more than one or two doctors who could act as backup. Would have been nice if any of them acted like they had some medical sense. Come to think of it, Helena wasn't exactly Dr. Welby, was she?
Her CPR techniques were dubious even back when the show first aired, as my mom (then a nursing student) pointed out at the time.
Although many fans are critical of Yasko, I enjoyed her. I just thought she was very sweet. The writers always seemed to give her thoughtful (though certainly not profound) things to say.
I enjoyed Alibe Parson. It was nice to hear an authentic sounding American accent and not another awful dubbing.
IIRC, she played Ripley's nurse at Gateway Station in Aliens.
I wonder who provided the voice for "Computer"? I don't recall seeing any onscreen credit. Was the voice ever heard during Series Two?
As far as I can remember just once- during "All That Glisters."
According to The Catacombs episode guides, the computer voice was performed by Barbara Kelly.
and me thinks they coulda explained what happened to Victor and so on in a season two flashback of season 1.
My 22 cents.and how they changed their uniforms too

still like bRian the Braingdeadguy in love with a trolley!
Peter- I think the Alpha computer spoke in Another Time another place..

Yasko was the giggler type!
You know, I wonder if Bill Fraser should get his own section here in the character list. He was a semi-regular, and even had a big part in a few episodes of S2.
I guess his biggest part was in Devil's Planet, when he was in command of Alpha while Koenig was on that Eagle mission (Tony and Alan must have been down for their afternoon naps that day).
Just a suggestion.
