Is it me, or is it fairly obvious that Feist originally based this novel on a Dungeons and Dragons campaign he was in at one point?

Strangely enough, I've never seen this book sold in two seperate volumes in the UK publication. I know sometimes books are split when published as Paperbacks, like the last volume of Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series, but even in Paperback, Magician was always sold as one volume in the UK.
