Anyone? I just read "Dark Wings" by Phyllis Eisenstein, which has to be one of the nastiest twist endings ever--a sad spinster becomes obsessed with a majestic eagle. She paints it and becomes infatuated with it. One night it picks her up and flies with her...back to its nest where it feeds her to its children.
