I'm not sure where she got the idea that innkeepers are tall. In my experience in reading fantasy, they tend to be of average height or short. She's probably thinking of Chapter 9 of Lord of the Rings Book 1, where Butterbur is described stooping down. This doesn't mean that he's tall, as he's stooping to talk to the hobbits, who average between three and four feet in height.
