I liked the crazy map. Sylvania, The Penn Republic, eHIO, West Virginia, East West Virginia, WyWming, High Cal, Low Cal, etc.

Hmm... I guess Magnets still affect Bender. Maybe its only Magnets that come in contact with his head.

By Butch Brookshier on Sunday, April 22, 2001 - 9:29 pm:

Fox lists the title as "Bending in the Wind".
Some random observations:
Nice to see Bender's folk singing make a return.
Zoidberg can cough up a sort of blue pearl.
They drive the Microbus down Lombard St. in San Francisco. Does this street hold the record for most appearances in movies and TV? Wouldn't surprise me. The chase scene is a takeoff on the chase in "Bullitt".
Beck did his own voice on the show.
Hippies are still around in the future.
Leela looked good in that tie-died top.

This was cute episode.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the shot of of the gang in sitting in the laundrymat in their underwear.

Yes! All my previous nits about magnets are still valid! Woohoo!

Butch, I believe hippies were previously seen in The Problem With Popplers.

So was that Robin Williams as the Patch Adams robot, ot just a very good imitation?

By dan R. on Monday, April 23, 2001 - 6:32 pm:

Jon, i think it was just a really good imitation. Otherwise they would have made some sort of big deal if williams was on.
I like the name of the states in the future...Washington A.C. LOL I didnt see a name for my state Maryland, so I assume someday in the future Maryland has to take responsibilty for DC and even change the state name?
I liked the Olestra bit where bender...er..."s-word" bricks like it was diareha...i forgot all about how olestra caused trouble with some people...
The chase scene was neat...nice mix of cartoon and comp/cartoon graphics...it looked weird seeing the VW bus bouncing on hills and the tour bus just hovering along...though wouldnt the bus bounce too? I mean if hover vehicles are set to hover at a certain height like 2 feet then if they hit a bump wouldnt the hover mechanism push the bus up so its 2 feet above the bump....? And then go back down after the bump..? Anyone get what i mean of am i just rambling?

By KAM on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 3:21 am:

Makes sense, although it is possible that the hover vehicles have sensors that focus on the road ahead to tell the hover mechanism if it is just a bump or the start of a bigger rise. So the hover device might be able to compensate for the small bumps.
Also the Golden Gate Hoverbridge is more than 2 feet over the water, but the hover cars seem to keep moving smoothly despite the ground dropaway.

By Jason on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 8:33 am:

I must ask, if all the cars in the future fly, why would there be a bridge at all? They can fly over the water, unless the brige was for podestrians and non-flying cars. If that's the case, why was there no road deck?

By Spornan on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 12:04 pm:

Nitpicking a nitpicker: Washington D.C. (and presumably A.C.) is not a state.

:)

By Rene on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 1:19 pm:

Why does Bender freak out when his body is damaged? Couldn't he get a new body?

By Butch Brookshier on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 4:27 pm:

You're right KAM, I forgot, though I should have remembered how eating the hippie made the alien stoned.

By Dan R. on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 - 10:05 pm:

Spornan...ur nit on a nitpicker would be correct but i said that maybe maryland incorpates dc into its state and then maryland changes its name...i might not have been clear...but like i said...ug i hope my state isnt dumb enough to adopt that crudy little cesspool...

I never thought I'd see the day when 'Beck' was in a cartoon

I guess that TPTB couldn't think of a joke for Maryland. Here are the few I thought of--Rosieland, Oprahland, MaryAnnLand.
