1ACV07 My Three Suns

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Futurama: Season One: 1ACV07 My Three Suns
Planet Express is delivering a package to Planet Trisol. On the way, Bender prepares an excessively salty dish for his first meal as ship’s cook. Fry is so thirsty that he drinks a bottle full of blue liquid. The liquid turns out to be Trisol’s emperor Bont. Fry is accused of assassination and informed that he is the new ruler of Trisol. Leela warns Fry that somebody could try to kill him to become emperor. They fight and Leela stomps back to the ship.

In a black-tie event, Fry is joined by his shipmates (minus Leela) and crowned emperor. Shortly after, Emperor Bont, still alive inside Fry, demands to be cut out. Fry and his friends barely manage to escape the angry mob.

The least traumatic way for Bont to exit Fry’s body is to make Fry cry. Problem is, Fry is too macho to cry. Bender tries telling Fry that Leela was killed on her way to help him. Unfortunately, Leela shows up before Fry finishes crying Bont out of his body. Fry reconciles with Leela and agrees to accept her help. In turn, Leela starts punching Fry so that he will cry. The others join enthusiastically. They succeed; Bont finally exits Fry’s body. Bont thanks Fry and punches him some more.

Great Episode:

As always Bender gets the best jokes.

NITPICKING A CARTOON:
-Why would the inhabitants of a Trinary System be made of water?

Amos, I got the irony as well.

Does Bender make any sense? He is hollow on the inside. I suppose he could use some room, but does he need all that empty sapce?

Also, where does Bender get all those cigars from? His chest is empty.

I liked the guest star emporer. He had some great lines "I will not come out his sweat glands!" "Yes yes, crying. Either that or the bone crunching."

I personally liked "Essence of Extar". The chef robot did a perfect Emeril!

>Does the crew normally pack black-tie attire for their missions? Would anybody have realized what happened to Bont had Fry worn a shirt? Add to pile of unanswerable questions.>

I guess they like to plan for every posible emergency. Also, in episode 4 (the Zapp Branigan episode) they could have used formal wear for the banquite. On a related note, could Fry have worn a T-shirt to the ceremony?

The apron is a reference to the classic Twilight Zone episode of the same name, which in turn was based on a great short story by Damon Knight. "How to Serve Man" was the title of a cookbook.

Ross--Bender's chest must be like the Doctor's TARDIS: bigger on the inside than the outside.

Or like Snoopy's dog house.
It could be that it's not as deep as we think.. it could only be as deep as half his circumfrance, and the rest is his inner workings. It could also be a replicator that allows him to produce whatever he wants.

Anyone else catch the reference to the "silence of the lambs" parody in the old critic tv show in the opening statements?

By Keith Alan Morgan on Sunday, July 11, 1999 - 10:19 pm:

This episode was a real tear-jerker. ;-)

The shot of Fry's footprints show them one size, then suddenly much smaller. It should have been a more gradual change.

Fry and Leela were arguing in front of a picture of an Emperor, but the name plate was blank.

Nit a nit, just an observation. One of the signs next to the Emperor's chair used Egyptian characters, another used Runes.

Why was the landing pad for the spaceship so far from the city?

By Anonymous on Thursday, July 29, 1999 - 4:47 pm:

The best line "...and for all you know she is!" --Bender tricking Fry into thinking Leela is dead.

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Monday, September 06, 1999 - 12:19 am:

My dad wondered why they had to land so far away from the city, given that they've shown that the spaceship doesn't really need a pad to land on. And while we're at it, exactly WHY is the EMPEROR of the whole PLANET kept in a little BOTTLE? He must be able to compress himself really well, cuz al of the inhabitants of the planet and him look like they take up a lot more space that what's inside that bottle. And I loved Extar!

By Neptunian Slug on Monday, September 06, 1999 - 12:28 am:

Yes! Extar was delicious!

By Chris Thomas on Monday, January 10, 2000 - 7:52 am:

I loved the salt on the slug bit - because if you've ever sprinkled salt on a slug or snail, they don't like it very much!!!!!!
Also liked the fact the TV chef had the "extra pair of hands" that everyone in the kitchen wished they had.

BEST DIALOGUE:

Leela: "I know you like cooking shows, but you're a robot. You don't even have a sense of taste."

Bender: "Honey, I wouldn't talk about taste if I was wearing a lime green tank top."

By Rene on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 2:19 pm:

Well, obviously, Bont doesn't want someone to drink him.

By KAM on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 - 4:13 am:

They was a Plastic Man story where the villain, Mr. Aqua, was drunk by Woozy Winks.
