2ACV05- Why Must I Be A Crustacean In Love

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Futurama: Season Two: 2ACV05- Why Must I Be A Crustacean In Love
While lifting weights, Dr. Zoidberg undergoes a bizarre physical transformation and trashes the gym. Farnsworth diagnoses Zoidberg's condition as being full of male jelly. Zoidberg has to go back to his home planet and mate. At his planet, Zoidberg's erotic display fails to attract any female. Even worse, Edna, an old high school crush, rejects him because of his undersized claws.

Fry gives Zoidberg pointers as to how to fake being in love. Although Zoidberg's people mate by instinct, he starts feeling in love with Edna. He shows it clumsily. Edna learns that Zoidberg is acting so idiotically due to Fry's advice. She is taken and makes a play for Fry. Zoidberg finds the two caught in a compromising position and challenges Fry to Clawplach:a fight to the death.

In the fight, Fry is about to kill Dr. Zoidberg, when he drops his weapon and lectures the crowd about how Zoidberg is his friend. Zoidberg takes the opportunity to chop off Fry's arm. They fight some more. But the crowd has gone off to mate, create offspring, and die.

Zoidberg and Fry make up. On the way home, Zoidberg reattaches Fry's arm… on the wrong location.

How could anyone miss the Star Trek references in this episode being it was a parody of Amok Time. I loved the National Anthem.

Missed the first 2/3 (•••••• -They bleep out s.t.u.p.i.d?- new time) and I would have to say the best part was the national Anthem. Also Fry was good with the lobster cracker, he did a good job before wacking himself in the face. It looked like sea gulls were introduced to Zoidburg's planet.

Zoidberg's fin made him look like the redrawn version of an old Justice League of America villain, (the name of whom ecapes me at the moment. Despero???)

Okay, a big point of this episode was that Zoidberg had never been in love or mated before, but Zoidberg was attracted to a lobster, I think in A Flight To Remember, and wasn't he at the single's bar in Love's Labors Lost In Space?

Fry's shirt must repair itself. The Dr. Z that Zoidberg cut into it was missing by the the end of the fight.

Though probably not an intended Star Trek reference, all the dead crustacean's had red shells, which makes them the equivalent of the redshirt.

Kegel exercises (At the gym, a woman is shown using a Kegelcizer machine. The fact that she is shown only from the waist down gives you a clue as to what Kegel exercises are.)

Actually, she was shown from the waist UP.

Johanna: The weapon Fry chose was not Star Trek, but the two he didn't choose were. (From Amok Time)

The national anthem was hilarious. The music was actually a clue on Jeopardy once.

Once Zoidberg put his "mating crest" up, I thought of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Why do these female crustaceans need breasts? If they die after mating, they can't be for producing milk to give to their offspring.

Clerical Error, perhaps?

Yep, Despero is the JLA villain ye're thinking of.

I must add when Zoidberg makes the "Z" on Fry's shirt...that's a salute to "Zorro"
