2ACV08- Raging Bender

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Futurama: Season Two: 2ACV08- Raging Bender
Bender picks a fight with a movie patron and beats him. He is recruited as a fighter in Ultimate Robot fighting. He barely wins his first round. He learns that the fights are rigged so that the most popular fighter wins. After a winning streak, Bender is told that he will be transformed into the unpopular "Gender Bender" complete with pink tutu and that he will lose his race to Destructor. If Bender refuses, Destructor will destroy him for real.

Bender decides to win the fight. Leela trains him. During the fight, Bender is no match for Destructor. Leela discovers that Phnog, Destructor's coach and her misogynistic martial arts instructor, is manipulating Destructor. She kicks the crap out of him. Destructor collapses into a heap and on top of Bender, flattening him and winning the fight.

Nice MST3K reference. "No talking during the movie."

Yes, that was me in the Arcturan kung fu scene. ;-)

So why didn't Richard Nixon have his new body?

An enjoyable, if standard Futurama outing.

The brain slug supersubplot was hilarious.

Best line: "I thought Robot wrestling was real just like pro wrestling. Instead, it turns out that is fixed like boxing."

Who is Joe Esterzhas?

When George Foreman ate all that fat, where did it go? He has no stomach.

Loved the LED zits on the robot behind the candy bar at the movies.

When everyone starts screaming and runs out of the cinema, someone says "Let's all go to the lobby"... isn't that the start of a little ad shown in US cinemas with the jingle "Let's all to the lobbby... and get ourselves some snacks" ?

Ah... I see. If they said "Directed by Paul Verhoeven" as well I probably would have clicked.

The robot girl who contacts Calculon looks like Ilda, the robot secretary from the Star Hawkins comic book series from the 50's.

In Jokes: The robot control suit is from FX2, the bell scene switch from Rocky, Leela's ex martial arts instructor is a a hybrid of Yoda & Mr Myagi. The show also reminds me of the Police Squad episode The Ring Of Fear.
