Marina Sirtis said at the Star Trek Convention that Denise had a lot of lines / scenes during the first few episodes of Season 1. When Denise saw that she wasn't getting alot of exposure in later episodes, she made the mistake of "counting her lines". After that, she wanted out.
On the same note, Marina added that Denise regretted leaving the show and asked to come back....hence the episode: "Yesterday's Enterprise" and her appearances as Sela in later episodes.
Don't forget her appearance in "All Good Thing" the series final.
You're right. I nearly forgot that one.
The Vegas convention report has a humorous comment made by Frakes. Talking about TNG's 20th anniversary being this year, he noted, "And of course, next year the 21st anniversary of the best career choice ever made. Denise Crosby — 'I'd like to quit that show now before it really gets popular.'"
To which Brent responded, "He's a way braver man than I am, because with this many people in the room, word gets back!"
What ever happened to Crosby? Did she find other work? or did she take up making movies of star trek fans at trek conventions full time?
She guest stared on a bunch of TV shows in the years since. I'm sure that she didn't make the kind of money that she would have for 6 more years of TNG, but I'm sure that she did fine.
While its a shame she left, Dorn's character likely wouldn't have taken off if she had stayed though. Worf was more a natural at Tactical I think than what his character was doing. (whatever his job was exactly I don't know)
So maybe Dorn should thank Crosby for making a stupid decision.
Crosby did a movie in 1991 called High Strung, as the bitchy wife of the boss of the main character, played by Steve Oedekerk. In one scene, she really got on his nerves, being offensive and racist and all that, so he told her off real good, and she left in stunned silence! Yaa-hoo!
Thomas F. Wilson from the Back To The Future trilogy (as all of the Biff Tannens and assorted family members) was in this movie as well, playing a pretty nice guy. A young Kirsten Dunst was in it too.
Crosby had a small part in 48 Hrs. as a lesbian, and she had a pretty big part in Pet Sematary (after leaving TNG). She also had a role in Deep Impact, as did James Cromwell (Zefram Cochrane), seeing as how the movie was put out by Paramount.
And of course, she hosted the Trekkies documentaries. She did a good job, but I was not really all that impressed by the docs. in general. It seemed as if the creators went out of their way to show the more "geeky and freaky" fans out there, and basically ignored the relatively normal ones, like me, and the good people who post on Nitcentral.
So, I saw both of them once, but I would not care to see them again. That's just me.
Did Crosby ever learn that Frakes made that comment which kinda of insulted her, or what? I would think her feelings might be hurt, but then again, maybe not.
Interesting little piece of trivia.

Fascinating.
Coincidentally I just started on Youtube, the movie
The Night the World Exploded (1957) starring Denise's grandmother Kathryn Crosby who was Kathryn Grant back then.
