Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: NextGen: Cast & Characters: The Cast: Michael Dorn

Well, he has not yet been written about, so here's my contribution.

Dorn was funny as I.M. Weasel in the Cow & Chicken show on the Cartoon Network. He also did the voice-over for Neutragena T-Gel commercials.

I also saw him do an episode of the PBS series Storytime. He really is handsome with out all the Worf stuff on his face, and I'm a guy!

As for an older thing he did, I saw him for a few seconds in the 1985 movie Jagged Edge. And the same year he was the Russian's bodyguard in Rocky IV.

And I think I've seen him do guest appearances on various drama shows in the last decade, I just don't remember which ones.

Here's what I wonder: Was it his idea to have Worf go to DS9, or TPTB of Trek at the time? I mean, when I learned that he had done that, I was skeptical because I didn't think that Worf needed to be on the show. But later, he proved his worthiness many times over. Namely, by preventing Garak from lauching the Defiant's weapon's systems that would have killed all the Founders if he had succeeded!

Anyway, what other non-Trek things has Dorn done?

He was a recurring guest star on the police show "CHiPs" as the token black guy, err I mean guy who didn't do much more than crack a joke at role call.

I read this on Trektoday.com;

"Michael Dorn, best-known to Trek fans as the Klingon Worf, would like to get a Captain Worf Star Trek project going.

Dorn thought about the idea due to his fondness for Worf. “I had come up with the idea because I love the character and I think he’s a character that hasn’t been fully developed and hasn’t been fully realized,” he said.

There has been interest expressed in the project, although for now, the Star Trek Abrams reboot is taking precedence. “Once I started thinking about it, it became obvious to me that I wanted to at least put it out there, which I have, and the response has been pretty amazing,” said Dorn. “We’ve been contacted by different individuals – I can’t say who and all that–about wanting to come on board and be part of this. Also, there’s all the political stuff going on with the new movies, with J.J. Abrams and Paramount and all that stuff, which I have no clue about and what it all entails, but that’s where it is right now.

“Interestingly enough it has gotten traction. I was very surprised; I was on a movie not too long ago, where one of the producers was basically lobbying to be part of it. He was like ‘Michael, I’d love to write it, if you haven’t.’”

Dorn’s agent and manager are “looking at all the avenues and trying to figure out which is the best one.

“If Paramount or CBS or anyone thinks this is a viable thing, they’ll jump on it.”

"I think he’s a character that hasn’t been fully developed and hasn’t been fully realized,” he said."???????

With all due respect to Michael and his terrific character, uh...no, thanks.
176 TNG episodes and 102 DS9 episodes have shown us enough Worf. I think we know all there is to know about him, short of a prequel series, showing him as a teenager and Starfleet cadet.
But a new show with him as Captain, showing us insights and characterization we haven't seen at any time between 1987 and 1999?
Again, thanks, but no thanks! I think we've seen enough Worf.

Thanks for the update, John. Since he is in the early stages, I hope the treatment he gets helps him beat it.
