One of the topics in the NextGen Sink detoured into this so I've moved all relevant posts here

How much longer can Brent Spiner play Data? When he was first cast, he was about 39 years old. Now, he is over 50. He needs more makeup on him due to his age, and even more due to the fact that the movie camera picks up every detail, more so than the TV cameras did, as he is supposed to look exactly the same as he did on Day One of Next Gen. Rumors of Data dying are going around the web now; it is believed that Spiner wants the character killed off.

Spiner is 50? You're kidding? How old are the rest of TNG cast?

If you will recall, when Data's mother Juliana showed up on the enterprise, Data, Dr. Crusher and Commander Riker were in sickbay discussing the technological upgrades from Data's version to the Android Juliana's. Riker commented that she was: "...programmed to age like Data...". That tells us that it doesn't matter how old Data may look... He is programmed to look older as time passes! I, for one, would definitely NOT want to see Data die in the movies. Brent Spiner could decide not to appear in the sequals if he wants to, but I feel that killing Data is just unnecessary. Being a fan of Mr. Spiner, however, I sincerely hope he opts to stay in for at least a couple more. =)

Well, I believe Patrick Stewart is now in his 60s - I remember reading somewhere that he did not enjoy his 50th birthday as much as he would have liked because he had to spend it in Borg make-up, this being when "The Best of Both Worlds" was in production. I don't know about the others...

That would make Stewart about 61 now. I think Gates Mc Fadden is about my age, 46-47. (Stewart was my age when Next Gen began.) I think Frakes is in his late 40's. Michael Dorn, I think, is about 50. Sirtis, I can't tell for sure, but she must have passed 40 by now.

Hey, Shatner was well into his 60s when he did "Generations"...

He was 63 at the time; Shat turned 71 last month.

Patrick Stewart was born on July 13, 1940, so he was 47 when TNG premiered, and is will be 62 this July.

Marina Sirtis was born on March 29, 1960 so she was 27 when TNG premiered, and is now 42.

Michael Dorn was born on December 9, 1952 so he was almost 35 when TNG premiered, and will be 50 this December.

Jonathan Frakes was born on August 19, 1952 so he was 35 when TNG premiered, and is will be 50 this August.

Gates McFadden was born on March 2, 1949 so she was 38 when TNG premiered, and is now 53.

LeVar Burton was born on February 16, 1957 so he was 30 (close to 31) when TNG premiered, and is now 45.

Luigi, your info on birth dates is intriguing. At the time of TNG's first season, Picard is meant to be in his late fifties, while Geordi is meant to be a young early-twentysomething.

Funny how things turn out.

I was shocked to find out that Patrick Stewart was only in his late forties. I guess it's not only that he was bald, but also that what little hair he had was completely white, that made him look much older to me. It's interesting that he's actually the SAME AGE during TNG's first season as Scott Bakula is Enterprise's.
