Data completely mispronounces "metathesis."

When Wesley gives Barclay advise in engineering, Wesley suggests the 'Flow compasitor' needs to be checked. In the next scene, Barclay tells the hologram of Counselor Troi that he already knew about the 'FLUX Compasitor', which, as we all know from the movie Back to the Future, is what makes time travel possible. =)

One more thing ... Data keeps the Musketeer hat and foil in his quarters. Did we ever see the Real Data interested in the Musketeers? Or did they forget that was a holodeck Data?

By Anonymous on Tuesday, March 21, 2000 - 7:14 am:

Should that be flux capacitor, maybe?

By Fred Kidd of Fort worth, TX on Saturday, August 05, 2000 - 10:06 pm:

I think the words "flow" and "flux" mean about the same thing. (I don't have a dictionary nearby, so I can't readily confirm this)

By ScottN on Sunday, August 06, 2000 - 1:46 pm:

Uh, Fred, I think Anonymous is making a joke... The Flux Capacitor is from Back To The Future.

By Admiral of the Fleet on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 6:31 pm:

This episode is the one that really did it for me concerning Wesley. Barclay's holo-Wes is all too accurate. Someone like Wesley should know better than to make fun of someone like Barclay.

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 7:53 pm:

Ditto. I mean, I never disliked Wes, or anything, but you're absolutely right concerning his behavior in this episode. Wes is an acting ensign, and he's using a derogatory nickname for a lieutenant, and in front of other officers, including that officer's fellow coworkers?

By Admiral of the Fleet on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 10:56 pm:

The unfortunate consequence of Wesley's idiocy, as far as the episode for the viewer is concerned, is to take away from Captain Picard's slip-of-the-tongue on the bridge and Data's short-lived attempt at rationalization. It would have been much more funny if Picard had just come out with the Brocolli bit on his own by accident.

If I understand Barclay's first fantasy correctly, he wants to be a bad ass insubordinate who beats up those who are afraid to fight?

While examining the anti-grav unit Barclay mentions graviton inverters. Why not just use anti-gravitons. According to Data in Attached anti-gravitons are used in tractor beams.

Barclay says he is afraid of everything. In Justice Picard says that `the seeds of criminal behavior can be detected and dealt with,' which implies a fairly sophisticated level of psychology. So why couldn't the Starfleet psychologists cure Barclay of his rampant phobias?

Why doesn't Troi sense Barclay's amorous feelings towards her?

Geordi's sleeves look a little long.

When the computer is listing items that wouldn't normally be picked up by sensors, it starts with 1,500, reduces it to 500, then down to 5. Do you think the writer was a little obsessed with a certain number?

Of course, everyone knows that bad-boys get the pretty girls.

KAM: Barclay says he is afraid of everything. In Justice Picard says that `the seeds of criminal behavior can be detected and dealt with,' which implies a fairly sophisticated level of psychology. So why couldn't the Starfleet psychologists cure Barclay of his rampant phobias?

Luigi Novi: Barclay never said anything of the sort. It was Geordi who said to him in Ten Forward, "You're just shy." I also don't think that either a phobia or shyness are classified as forms of "criminal behavior", and we know the Federation banned genetic engineering except in cases where it's used to correct defects or assist in the treatment of major injuries. While elimination of criminal behavior was not mentioned, this could be seen as defect, as it was in Repentence(VOY), but I doubt shyness or phobias would.

KAM: Why doesn't Troi sense Barclay's amorous feelings towards her?

Luigi Novi: For the love of God, Keith, EVERY MALE ON THE SHIP has "amorous feelings" for her! Don't you think she senses it every minute of every day? What is she supposed to do, go up to every male on the ship who has sexual fantasies about her and confront them on it? :)

THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH OF STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION HATH BEEN REVEALED!

In the "Sim-Troi" program...she declares herself to be a goddess!

AMEN! :O :O :O :O :O

By John A. Lang on Sunday, July 07, 2002 - 10:23 pm:

GREAT LINE: "Muzzle it" Troi to "Sim-Troi"..It's great because Troi thought that Barclay's re-creations of the senior staff on the Holodeck was funny...until she saw HER re-creation...then it wasn't funny anymore! A REAL funny scene!

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, July 09, 2002 - 5:22 pm:

You're goin' to the Brig, Mr. LaForge....
Here's why...

Sometime after Picard orders the crew to stop calling Barclay the nickname "Broccoli", Geordi goes down to Ten-Forward and uses the nickname in front of Guinan.

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 6:55 pm:

GREAT SCENE: Troi's (Sirtis') BARE NAKED LEGS in the Holodeck. (Where Troi is the "goddess")

By Mr. Crusher on Monday, January 16, 2006 - 7:48 pm:

How does LaForge calling Barclay by the nickname in front of Guinan mean that he is going to the brig? Is Guinan the brig gate keeper or something?

By Mr. Crusher on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 3:25 pm:

After watching this episode just now, LaForge in fact never called Barclay by his nickname in front of Guinan, nor did he ever do in it the entire episode.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 6:28 pm:

I think John's point was that Geordi was using the name in public, mentioning Guinan's presence to underscore that point. (I have no opinion on whether the scene occurred as John says, or did not, as Crusher asserts.)

Was there a problem with the antigrav generator before the canisters started breaking? Barclay was called down to the cargo bay before the first canister broke and leaked invidium, which was the cause of the problems.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Monday, December 10, 2012 - 7:26 pm:

NANJAO It's fortunate that none of the technology in Data's body was vulnerable to invidium.

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Wednesday, July 04, 2018 - 4:46 am:

NANJAO As Barclay leaves the holodeck at the conclusion of the episode, you can hear the first few bars of Minstrel Boy playing, the song that O'Brian and captain Maxwell would later sing in the 4th season episode The Wounded.
