Arggh Star Trek does it again!!! They make up a chemical name when an existing one will do. Methagenic compound. Would nt Methane have surficed
At the end, when Crusher leaves Picard's quarters, is that a picture of Station Regula One that we see?
While examining the Transporter, anti-graviton particles are discovered and Data states that that indicates use of a tractor beam. However, if Gravitons are the source of Gravity, then Anti-Gravitons implies Anti-Gravity. Since gravity pulls things together then wouldn't anti-gravity force things apart. Would you trust a Tractor Beam made up of energy that forces things apart?
In the tunnel with the fire jets, Picard says, "Can we get through?"
Crusher says, "I think so."
Picard says, "What did you say?"
Crusher says, "I didn't say anything."
Either the creators decided to let us hear one of Crusher's thoughts, or those implants are causing her to forget what she just said.
Why would a paranoid race like the Kes want to be a part of the Federation anyway? They don't strike me as the type of people who would want to be a part of a large community of aliens.
Just how old was Jack Crusher? Picard says that Jack was his best friend, but usually best friends are around the same age, sharing the same experiences. In Family it was showed that Jack made a recording for Wesley when he was just a few days old and Jack looked to be in his twenties, but Wesley was still in his teens when that show aired.
For that matter how old is Dr. Crusher? When the show began Picard looked considerably older than Dr. Crusher, although she seemed to catch up with him as the years went by. (Cheap shot! Cheap shot!) Personally, I think that the old Dr. Crusher in All Good Things was just her without makeup. (Five yard penalty for unnecessary roughness!)
I liked it when Riker indicates all the Kes equipment and says, "Just be sure to take all this junk with you.' after the Kes delegate suggests leaving the Enterprise.
Exactly what does Medical training consist of in the future? As they approach the force field. Beverly thinks she can reprogram the tricorder to put a hole in the field, and the only thing Picard does is say, "No, it's in the higher wavelengths." If Beverly had failed to become a doctor would she have become an engineer? (Also in the episode Suspicions she seemed to have more faith in metaphasic shielding than all the others at the conference, and in Starship Mine she tinkers with Geordi's VISOR. Clearly dancing is not this woman's only hidden talent.)

Patrick Stewart was 47 when TNG started. Wes (the character not the actor) was 15 when the show started. That means if Picard is the same age as Stewart he would have been 32 when Wes was born.
If I'm not mistaken, Picard is thirteen years older than Stewart.
The original character description listed Picard as a man in his 50's. That's from the early version of the description. I'm trying to remember if Picard's age is ever mentioned in the show.
According to the Star Trek Chronology book, Picard was born in 2305. (TNG season 1 was set in 2364).
Thanks, Rene. I couldn't find my copy of the Chronology to check.
Specifically, the Chronology cites The First Duty(TNG) as the reference, because that episode established that he graduated in 2327, and because Coming of Age(TNG) established that he applied to the Academy unsuccessfully at age 17, and was successful on his second application a year later at 18.
GREAT LINE: Why didn't you ever tell me that you were in love with me? Crusher to Picard.
If I was there, I'd say "YEAH! Why not?! Everyone else knows you got the hots for Bev."
Leave it to Jonathan Frakes (AKA Riker) to put Picard & Crusher in an episode like this. This one is truly enthralling.
The chronology made Picard a little too old. I think he's 74 by the time Nemesis came around (2379).
Crusher was born in 2324 I believe which would make her 46 during this episode (2370).
Still doesn't address the question of how Jack Crusher was Picard's close friend. The age difference is still far apart, but still possible. I suppose when they served on the Stargazer (2333-2355).
I suppose 22 years on the same ship would result in friendship, or a burning desire to send Jack off on dangerous Away Missions, hoping he'd get killed, so Picard could get close to Jack's hot wife!
Thanks for the research.
Deleted Line: Picard: From the moment I first met you...(Not again! - everyone)
Another line that we'd like to hear:
"Kiss me, you fool!" by either Picard or Beverly
This episode was DEFINITELY a "KMYF" episode
The forcefield where picard and crusher are on the kes-prytt border seems to go right into the side of a big hill. It doesn't look like it would be too steep to climb up and get over the border that way.
Patrick Stewart was 47 when TNG started.
Is that why they hired him?
Doesn't seem a little odd that Riker seems to characterize the whole Kes race based on the one guy he met? Maybe the ambassador was just under a lot of stress and that was making him unusually paranoid.
Interestingly, Scott Bakula was also 47 during Enterprise's first season.
??? So how come they both looked so much older than me??? :D
Crusher says, "I smell gas," referring to the methane. However, methane is odourless; the "smell of gas" is produced artificially by adding "odorants" to it, so that leaks can be detected by smell. Unless this is an artificial gas source with odorants, I don't see how she can be smelling it.
When Bev was making that hole in the Kes-Prit border field, Picard was looking right at it and Bev had to push him through. I agree with Joel's post, about four months ago, about judging an entire race by one person. Isn't that guy and the Prit chic their respective heads of security? Secuirty people are usually more cautious than most, but yes the Kes guy was going a bit overboard.

I don't think that he meant the reace as much as he meant the government of the Kes (the government who was trying to get into the federation) As that guy was the ambassador he is who that government chose to send to be their represenative for a meeting that important, meaning they trust him to represent their (the government's) values.
Ok, maybe they just have very poor judgement in picking their ambassadors then. It still seems like Riker should've learned a bit more about their people before jumping to conclusions.
He wasn't "jumping to conclusions", an ambassador is supost to be one of the best represtntives of the people, and based on this guy, I think Riker made the right judement.
John Bolton notwithstanding.
"They can be a great people, Kal-el, they wish to be... they merely lack a light to show them the... no, actually, these folks are hopeless. I think I'll send you to Earth instead."
yes Maybe Riker jumped the gun a little but in his position he had little choice, as others have pointed out, the Ambassador represented his government so Riker had to make conclusions based on this guys actions.
What I want to see is the Meeting between the Ambassador and his superiors after this Episode.
so Ambassador, I assume the meeting went well, when can we expect our first meeting with the Federation council?
Well, you see, there have been some setbacks.
What kind of setbacks.
well, specifically...the federation wants nothing to do with us.
oh?
well....its a funny story really..hahah... um....you see, well the Prit, they kind of kidnapped the Captin chief medical officer of the Federation's Flagship. and then we helped mount a rescue operation and then well before the mission was a success I went a little crazy and assumed the Federation was actually alling with the prit and had this whole big scheme going but now I realize how insane that idea was but unfortunately this realization came after I morally insulted the first officer and security chief of the flag ship they got their captin back but not before I totally smeared our good name and the First officer and most likely the Captin's official report will keep the federation from ever talking to us again. *takes a deep breath*
You are so Fired.
In my opinion, allowing one half of the planet to join the Federation and not the other could trigger a civil war....which the federation would be responsible for...which would be a violation of The Prime Directive
I believe that if the planet has achieved warp speed the prime directive does not apply. It's rather hard to say, as the exact details tended to vary from ep to ep & writer to writer on exactly how The Prime Directive worked.
Like I have said elsewhere, I dont really care for episodes revolving around interpersonal relationships between members of the crew. Therefore, I dont really like this episode too much.
As for the conflict between the two factions on the planet, they were not interesting or appealing enough to be even remotely memorable. I dont even remember their names or what they looked like. That's how much of an impact this ep had on me.
But at least it wasn't "Gambit", "Sub Rosa", "Genesis", or "Emergence". Good GOD, dont get me started on any them!
As for the whole P/C thing in general, I believe one of the non-canon novels addressed the situation and fleshed it out somewhat. I forget which one, however.
That's all I got.
Brian - I believe that if the planet has achieved warp speed
That would be one fast planet. ;-)
They built up Picard/Beverly, but wimped out in the end.
