Well, since every other Trek board has one, this one should too. Time to set aside the (usually) great writing, gripping stories, and compelling characters for the moment and concentrate on another much-beloved aspect of Trek: Stuff Blowing Up! :-) What are your favorite/least favorite SFX from DS9?

Personally, I think the single coolest SFX shot in DS9's entire run is the shot of the minefield coming down in "Sacrifice of Angels." (It looked neat going up, too, but it was a lot cooler going down!)

As for worst SFX: Sisko and Dukat falling into the fiery pit in "What You Leave Behind" (particularly in context).

BEST:

Just about any scene with the Defiant!

Almost every battle scene, especially "The Way of the Warrior," "Shattered Mirror," "A Call To Arms," "Sacrifice of Angels," and others.

Thw wormhole opening to reveal Jem Hadar ships looking like beetles bursting out, "A Call To Arms."

And there are many others.

WORST:

The Changelings/Odo/Founder Female morph could have looked more realistic.

"Valiant" (They could have done better CGI than that!)

"What You Leave Behind" (I liked it, but they should have had all-new stuff since it was the last episode!)

Again with the battle footage reuse. Please..
it was only a few shots. What's teh big deal?

Rene:
Yes, I know it was only a few shots. And yes, they cost a lot to make. But since it was the LAST episode of the seires, I expected all-new shots. (And I don't think I was really making a big deal about it).

Lea, I'm sure you had the best intentions at heart, but there are some places in the world where we have not seen the last episode yet.....at least warn us about spoilers , please

I'm terribly sorry, Cableface. Now I feel like a clod... :-p

It's okay.......I'm over it now.....

The best sfx was when the Defiant was destroyed. The worst sfx was the last episode of DS9 because half of the battle footage was reused from earlier eipsodes, and even two of the shots came from Generations.

By Rene on Monday, April 03, 2000 - 12:08 pm:

It wasn't half the battle. It was barely even 10% of the battle. Sheesh!

By Alyeska on Wednesday, April 05, 2000 - 2:31 pm:

Actually there was 144 seconds of battle footage in the last episode. Of that 144 seconds a full 41 seconds of it was reused footage. That is 28% of the battle scenes. While my 50% was a little high, 10% was even further off. Trust me on this, I got all the battle footage on mpeg.

In the beginning of the first episode,
right after the brige of the saratoga
explodes, the scene where everyone standing falls
to the floor looks incredibaly cheap.
*this* is probaly *the* worst effect

Odo's shapeshifting
The wormhole sfx

Cool cool cool!
