Crossfire

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: DS9: Season Four: Crossfire
By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 - 1:47 am:

Sure took Kira long enough to ask about Odo's belt. He only wore it for 6 episodes of the previous year, 32 episodes ago.

I liked the scene of Worf and Odo bonding as they discussed ways to keep people from stopping by their quarters.

WARNING!!!! POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!
Shakaar is talking to Odo about whether, or not, to tell Kira how he feels about her. In a later episode (Children of Time?), it's revealed that Kira & Shakaar broke up because something, or other, told them that they were destined to walk down different paths, or something like that. Well, why don't Bajorans just go to this thing in the first place to find out who they are supposed to be with and avoid all this mistaken coupling that they do in the first place?

Kira and Shakaar watch the Wormhole open, but where was the ship that caused it to open?

I forget the exact wording, but when Kira & Shakaar are watching the wormhole open, something is said about making a wish when you see it open. People must have wished themselves silly during the first two seasons of the show, since there was regular traffic to and fro.
I do wonder what they wished after the events of The Jem'Hadar. Perhaps people were wishing for love, or money, or just maybe they might have possibly wished that the Dominion doesn't fly through and turn Bajor into a smoking ruin? (Especially with people defying Third Talak'Talan's comments about not going through anymore.)
Also the wormhole opening and closing for apparently no reason in Homefront must have produced some rather frantic wishing. Although since the opening and closing was caused by a person on the station, I'm amazed that Quark hasn't tried to figure out what the guy did, so that Quark could make a fast buck on it. ("Place your bets! If you can guess when the wormhole will open next, you will be a winner!")

When Odo says they are going to Level 2-D, Odo is told that there is a turbolift stuck on Level 41. Is there just one turbolift shaft on Level 41? Shouldn't the assassin be more specific, like say Level 41, Section D, or Level 41-D? I realize that Odo was distracted, but the assassin should have been more careful. If there was only one turbolift shaft on Level 41, then what good would it do to turn over control of the turbolift to another source since the turbolift would never be able to go below 41 until the blocked shaft is cleared?

Kira tells Odo that she is glad that he is the first one to know about her and Shakaar. I guess she just forgot about all those security people stationed outside her quarters. I'll bet they knew what was going on.

Funny Way To Pass The Time(TM) #47:

Watch the scene where Odo rescues Kira and Shakaar from the plunging turbolift, using his arms. While he does this, try NOT to think about the Popeye the Sailor Man theme tune...

:) :) :)

Ah-k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k!

What's up with Sisko in this ep.? Why does he brush off Odo with a personal problem, instead of either talking it over directly with him or talking to somebody else of the senior staff to talk to Odo to help him with it? Usually, whenever someone of the senior staff has problems, the rest of the command crew and certainly the captain, notices it and tries to help. Is Odo not important enough? Does nobody like him enough to try to help him?

I wonder why Quark thinks that Odo is putting in the sound-protection in his quarters as courtesy to him. Obviously, Quark's visit to Odos quarters on pretext of the noise so unnerved Odo that he never wanted to give him this excuse again and keep his own privacy by not letting one sound outside.

Funny, I could have sworn the fake worf said in his dialogue to "check the security codes". This means that either the assassin was clairvoyant and knew Odo was too precoccupied to really check or he had really stolen the security codes, too. I therefore can't understand why Sisko doesn't pursue the matter once Odo says he neglected to check the codes; they still could have been compromised!

I haven't seen that ep. yet, but the way you describe it, I wonder if they have grown apart in the meantime, and are therefore walking down different paths from that time onwards, since people change. I mean, Kira looked really happy in this ep., so I think it was good for her at this point of her life. Just a thought.

How many decks does DS9 have anyway? I thought the freefall of the turbolift to be a tad unbelievable...they should've crashed in less than 3 minutes!

On the same note, once Odo unmorphed his hands, what was holding the turbolift in place?

John A. Lang: On the same note, once Odo unmorphed his hands, what was holding the turbolift in place?

Dan Gunther: The sides of the turbolift, which Odo had pushed out of shape.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 12:25 am:

How about if they were falling from an upper pilon (sp) to a lower one. The enterprise had over 30 decks and those pilons are many times higher than the enterprise, the equivilant of a few hundred decks I'd imagine.

By Dan Gunther on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 8:07 am:

Yeah, that makes sense... I haven't seen the episode in awhile, and I don't have time right now to check my DVDs, but isn't this right after Kira and Shakaar watch the wormhole from an upper pylon? If so, Brian's right, and the long free fall makes perfect sense!

Brian Fitzgerald: The enterprise had over 30 decks...
Luigi Novi: 46, IIRC.

As for falling from an upper pylon, the upper pylons are curved. How does the artificial gravity work in that situation?

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 10:47 am:

Ah yes...I remember now. Odo did push the sides of the turbolift out of shape. However, the whole scene reminded me of an old "Popeye" cartoon.

On the same note...I guess this is what you'd call HAND BRAKES!

(DUCKS)

Were they falling at Break neck speed?

42

I think Luigi was using a number which was provided by Worf.:)

No, Odo was the one who said "Give me your security codes and I'll release control to you." Then he released control without waiting for Worf to give the codes.
