Nitpicker's DVD

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: DS9: DS9 Kitchen Sink: Nitpicker's DVD

So, if anyone's been to the startrek.com site lately, you may or maynot be asked to fill in a survey having to do with marketing a DVD collection of the first season TNG episodes. One of the things they ask you to rate is an "automatic pop-up menu with Nitpicker's Guild information." Excuse me? Now, I thought they were still supposed to be pissed of with us... so what's the deal? How can we find out?

Also, does Phil know about this? Seems to me that there's some copyright issues involved.

Have the sharks from Paramount contacted him for permission to use the Guild stuff?

Here it is word-for-word:

"Automatic pop-up menus during episodes revealing 'Nitpicker's Guild information"

This is on a list of possible features asking you if it would "Very Important", "Somewhat Important", "Somewhat Unimportant", or "Very Unimportant".

It would be interesting, but.... I like my guides. Buy the guides! Phil needs the money so someday he can retire and be happy and write MORE guides.

Nitpicker's GUILD information? Are our details being forwarded to every owner of the DVDs? (I hope not.)

Sounds like Paramount is doing what we in the UK call a "major U-turn". Especially if Phil is involved personally.

For the record Paramont never tried to shut down Phil's Guides. Some litligation related to other fan books about other shows and movies (much by the Fox corp.) Caused his publisher to drop him.

But Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Paramount is owned by Viacom. I don't see why Dell didn't at least TRY to ask Paramount if they were also inclined as Fox was. Did they?

By Brian Fitzgerald on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 11:37 am:

Fox wasn't the only one doing it, just the one who did it most, paramount had done nothing to dell yet but they had cracked down on fanclubs using the trek name. Also as I recall Phil was talking to dell about doing a guide for Star Wars, not to mention another X-files guide.

Okay... any ideas on who to contact about all of this? Has anyone tried to get in touch w/ Phil?

I've wanted to see a commentary track where a nitpicker would go through pointing out nits in the movie.
