The Season 1 boxed set comes out on 25th February 2003!!

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Saturday, November 16, 2002 - 8:42 pm:

Yippee! :)

By Josh M on Sunday, November 17, 2002 - 9:28 pm:

Yes!!!!!!!!!!

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 - 6:17 am:

I hope they sell it for less than $99.99 apiece. I don't feel ANY season is worth that much money.
At least $50.00 apiece would be fair.

I've seen a few episodes on TV and the episodes always had me asking myself, "When is this going to be over?" or "What was THAT all about?"

By Josh M on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 - 9:58 pm:

Not a big fan of DS9 John?

By John A. Lang on Thursday, November 21, 2002 - 5:30 am:

There were a few episodes I enjoyed. Not many though. The Linear time / non linear time episodes ALWAYS are soooo confusing. The "Dax" thing is even more confusing...I mean, why would a woman want a man living inside her body? Then there was "Rejoined"...probably the most controversial episode of all time next to "The Outcast" (STTNG) I don't feel the gay / lesbian lifestyles issues should be portrayed on a prime time sci-fi show...especially with little kids watching. Things picked up when Worf signed on though.

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Thursday, November 21, 2002 - 9:17 am:

No, no, it's the symbiont "living inside her body." The Dax symbiont's last host was Curzon, who was a man. Sisko knew Curzon Dax, and maintained the friendship with Jadzia Dax after Curzon died (the symbionh was transplanted). Sisko continued to call her "old man" as a term of affection.

As for "Rejoined," well, I don't share your concerns (far from it). Star Trek has always been about social allegory, and I see no reason why some areas should be declared "off-limits." (Of course, Buffy has portrayed such things successfully for two-and-a-half years.)

Aaaanyway, this board is meant to be about DS9 DVDs, and I suppose I should be setting an example and staying on topic. :)

By Deep Sven of Nine on Thursday, November 21, 2002 - 1:02 pm:

I first found out about it here, so it must be true.

By John A. Lang on Thursday, November 21, 2002 - 2:14 pm:

HMMM...The it says there will be 6 discs. The first 5 discs will feature the episodes from Season 1. The 6th disc is cast interviews & stuff. They SHOULD offer customers a choice between a 5 disc set (without the interviews) & a 6 disc set (with the interviews) so those who don't want the interviews can pay the cost of DS9 DVD for LESS! I don't think that paying $99.99 for 5 discs of episodes plus 1 disc of yakky-yak is fair.

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Thursday, November 21, 2002 - 2:19 pm:

I really don't think there would be much difference in price. But Trek DVDs are still way too expensive. In contrast, I got Season Two of Buffy for $60 Cdn (or $37 US), and it also had six discs (for 22 eps plus features).

By Matt Pesti on Sunday, December 01, 2002 - 2:08 pm:

Josh, you forget, there are other reasons little kids shouldn't be watching Buffy. The violence, the sex, the occult themes. Throwing in a confusing scene with Tara and Willow is nonthing when Buffy is shagging all non Xander males. Parental discesion advised.

Message shows require complexity. Most writters aren't capable of that, or it's easier to blow up aliens. I would argue that the Willow and Tara relationship was more to drive the "Post high school scooby group dynamic" that as a message show. Good writting is the difference between inserting a bad anti drug lecture and "Duet".

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Sunday, December 01, 2002 - 2:56 pm:

Oh I don't think that Buffy ever spends too much on "message" episodes. However, on Trek, we frequently see people getting killed, we've seen depictions of terrorism (The High Ground(TNG)), ships blowing up, scenes of torture (Chain of Command(TNG) among others), and countless other things. What makes same sex relationships more objectionable to impressionable children than scene after scene of violence?

By Curious George on Sunday, December 01, 2002 - 11:00 pm:

Uh, why are we discussing this on the DS9 DVD board?

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Monday, December 02, 2002 - 2:27 pm:

Primarily because the moderator let it go waaay off topic.

I'll make sure to tell him to get things back on topic...

(tells self: Get DVD board back on topic!!!)

Okay, done. :)

By Matt Pesti on Monday, December 02, 2002 - 7:59 pm:

The Short Answer: Use of force is different from violence.

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Monday, December 02, 2002 - 8:24 pm:

Huh? What do you mean?

By Matt Pesti on Sunday, December 15, 2002 - 12:57 pm:

Compare your model ships having a explosion matted over them, to a "When Animals attack" special.

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - 4:44 pm:

Just to let everyone know, I will not be buying DS9 on DVD right away. I'm going to wait for the price to come down. Until then, I'll make up new "daffy-nitions" on the TOS board or find new mistakes in TOS, STTNG, or other movies that I own.

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 - 1:39 pm:

You're forgiven, John. Even I, you're faithful moderator, will probably not be buying them for a while.

By Electron on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 - 4:58 pm:

Then we others will have the slight chance of spotting something first. Time to decipher my handwritten notes from the guide!

By Deep Sven of Nine on Sunday, March 30, 2003 - 5:44 am:

Season 2 ships out on April 1. No joke.

By Josh Gould-DS9 Moderator (Jgould) on Sunday, March 30, 2003 - 9:21 am:

I saw Season 2 in the Music World in the Sunnyside Mall in Bedford yesterday. A bit too pricey... and yet...

I did get Season 1 - the transfer and sound are superb, but I have yet to go through most of the extras.

By Titanman20 on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 - 7:35 am:

If you're wanting to collect or watch these collections, your best bet is to get them on Half.com, I bought them all 1 at a time on there and sold them back and pretty much broke even. they are around $55-$70 including shipping on there.

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Tuesday, February 03, 2004 - 6:28 pm:

I am interested in buying one of the DVD seasons of DS9. Out of Seasons 5 6 7, which one would be the best to buy? I haven't seen most of the eps from either of them but I know the details on how the series ends. (I visit this website)

Criteria for consideration
Long running story arc (a good one I mean, not like Duras in Enterprise)
Adequate plot
beautiful space battles (and which has more space battles, season 6 or 7)

By Josh Gould (Jgould) on Tuesday, February 03, 2004 - 10:38 pm:

I'd go with all three ;)

If forced to choose one, I think you'd like Season 7 best - the final war arc takes up fully half of it!

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Wednesday, February 04, 2004 - 4:17 pm:

Well Josh, here in the Federation we don't use money. All material goods are replicated. So I can't afford it.

Unless you are making a good will gesture.:)

thanks for the opinion

By Thande on Thursday, February 05, 2004 - 6:23 am:

In my opinion the best battle scenes are in the first eight episodes and last episode of Season 6; the battle scenes in Season 7 are mostly old footage reused.

I haven't seen most of Season 5 so I can't comment on that, but I preferred 6 to 7.

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 3:57 pm:

Well, I purchased Season 6...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

You guys didn't tell me this was the season which has "Profit and Lace!"

(hyperventalation slowing, slowing, slowing)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

By Dan Gunther on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 5:34 pm:

LMAO!!!

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 7:28 pm:

Now for some crying on my part.

I went to put in disk 5 of season 6 and...

It's Disk 4!!:(
THEY SENT ME 2 DISK 4s!!!!
HOW!? WHY!?

(BTW, what is LMAO?)

By John A. Lang on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 8:25 pm:

I hope you still have the receipt!

By Sparrow47 on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 8:38 pm:

"Laughing my buttocks off."

By Dan Gunther on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 11:51 pm:

What he said, more or less. :)

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 - 4:49 pm:

Have people found all the Section 31 "easter-eggs" in DVD-eep Space Nine?

Maybe a sub board could be made where people can list them; and what they are about.

This way the people* (like me) who can't afford to buy the DVD season sets can enjoy the possible insights.

*(Though I suppose everyone can't afford them.):)

By Torque, Son of Keplar on Wednesday, March 03, 2004 - 7:14 pm:

The intro effect on each DVD, at least season 6 DVDs, has the Defiant flying through the wormhole coming to a stop docked at DS9. (you know, the intro that always plays when you start it up.)

Well, here is the Nit!

Hey Chief! Is this the new Jefferies Tube?
The Defiant docks at one of the upper pylons. Now I know that it could be done(it'd look funny); but the way they have it docked, it appears the Defiant has a docking port right through the middle of the starboard Warp Nacelle!

By John A. Lang on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 5:41 pm:

Just to let everyone know, (in case you haven't guessed it already) I have the complete 7 seasons on DVD

By John A. Lang on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 5:41 pm:

TV Shows On DVD.com has announced that Paramount will be re-releasing DS9 again...this time as a "All 7 Seasons Gift Pack".

I'd HATE to think how much that's gonna cost for "first time buyers"

Time to hock the silverware, Marge!

By Anonymous on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 11:42 pm:

"I'd HATE to think how much that's gonna cost for "first time buyers""

Probably $1000. Or $100 if you buy the "special asian 'looks like a bootleg but it probably really isn't' edition".

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 7:50 pm:

Something that annoyed me during the run of DS9 is when someone orders food / drink from the Replicator, something or someone is standing in front of the slot where the stuff comes out...so the SFX people don't have to show the food / drink being dispensed from the Replicator. Pretty dang cheap & cheesy if you ask me.

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - 7:52 pm:

Either that or the have the camera pointed at the SIDE of the Replicator so the actor/actress can just get the item out of the slot without actually showing the Replicator working.

By John-Boy on Sunday, January 30, 2005 - 10:02 am:

and your complaint with the replicators has to do with the DVD because . . . . . .?

By David on Saturday, February 20, 2010 - 9:35 am:

I managed to get Seasons 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 on DVD. It's become rather hard to get 3 and 4 so I had to get them elsewhere. They're usually about $60-70 Cdn each. :-( A few were Christmas presents, though. :-)
