What You Leave Behind
Most "Mediocre" episode: What You Leave Behind (It WOULD be on my "best" list IF they included flashbacks of Jadzia & eliminated Vic Fontane)
Ok John, whats left?
Those are mediocre episodes? You mentioned half of the entire series' run! And a lot of those were some of the best ones, IMO. Necessary Evil was mediocre? Whispers? The Wire, which was the first Garak-centered episode? And The Collaborator??!!??
The Quickening, Broken Link and Nor the Battle to the Strong were mediocre? The Reckoning? And both In the Cards and Tears of the Prophets?
THINGS PAST??!!!??? CHIMERA????!!!??? Those were two of the most powerful, revelatory episodes in the entire run!!
And you thought nearly the entire 6-episode arc that opened the sixth season, and almost the entire 9-episode closing arc of the series, including both the finale, and The Changing Face of Evil, which possibly its strongest episode, were mediocre, but didn't include Extreme Measures, which was possibly the weakest in terms of its relationship to the arc??
Well, to each his own.
I would suggest however, that you combine such posts into one to conserve space, though, John. I wonder how much space splitting them up into seven takes.
Agreed, Luigi. John, you're crazy.
Well, everyone, that's all YOUR opinion, isn't it?
I wasn't a big Collaborator fan. Or Chimera.
But I was a big Extreme Measures fan. I mean, come on, the very last O'Brien/Bashir episode? Although, you're right, it was the most stand alone of the arc.
Though there are many more that I don't agree with.
The reason why I didn't put these episodes on my "Like" list is:
1. Some dealt with a very confusing time travel story thereby making it less enjoyable.
2. Some stories were re-hashes of "TOS" / "Next Generation" episodes thereby lacking originality.
3. I didn't care for the episodes with "Section 31" whatsoever. Granted, "Section 31" may / may not be a part of Starfleet, but if it was, Starfleet should've done more to stop it because they were radicals. (IMHO)
4. I couldn't stand Ezri Dax at all. Nor could I stand Vic Fontane. They ruined all the episodes in which they were in.
5. Some of the episodes I listed above were just plain DULL and seemed to go on forever.
However, these episodes weren't put on my "dislike list" because there was SOMETHING that caught my attention but failed to capture my interest.
Um, okay.
So, how about the "dislike" and "like" lists?
Har de har har!
JoshM: Well, everyone, that's all YOUR opinion, isn't it?
Luigi Novi: Well, let's see....I said both "IMO" and "Well, to each his own," so, um....yeah, I think I made that clear.
Well, as long as we're all in agreement.
Wow, sorry John, I really respect you and I rarely comment on others' opinions, but you are absolutely fraggin' insane! Just kidding man, seriously.
I can take a joke. However, I'm seriously thinking about re-locating "Whispers" (season 2) to my "Like" list. That one was pretty good.
I just hope you understand my logic on how the "medicore episodes" caught my attention but not my interest.
Also, I'm not saying this episodes were bad, it's just they could've been better.
All in good fun, man. I know what you mean, and I have some opinions that don't jibe with others, as well. See my comments on the sixth season episode known only as The Episode Whose Name etc. etc. And I absolutely LOVED Voyager's "Threshold." ACK! *ducks as potted plant sails past head* I'm kidding! SERIOUSLY!!! I HATED it!!! Whaddaya mean, banned from Nitcentral for life?!? Aw...
Just out of curiosity, Dan, what did you like about it? What did it for you?
Personally, while it's popular to cite that episode as the worst, there are many that I find FAR worse. Threshold's main offenses were:
1. Horrible science
2. A supposed character realization at the end of the episode that didn't pertain to anything that happened during the episode
3. A supposed nit created by the crew achieving transwarp.
Many episodes have had as bad or far worse science, many have had character hollowness as bad or worse, like Favorite Son, and the nit is not the hardest one to explain. Spirit Folk is far more offensive for its horrible plot and character actions, Fury for the way it ruined a character's earlier denoument, etc.
Well Luigi, if you're speaking of "Threshold," I liked nothing about it. It did nothing for me whatsoever. That part was entirely insincere.
As for "Profit and... well, you know," Rom absolutely cracks me up! When he's showing Quark how to walk and sit, I can't stop laughing. I know they're cheap laughs, but I can't help myself.
"Favorite Son," hated. "Fury," I would wipe from the canon if I had that power. "Spirit Folk," I have to say, had it's moments. Except the basis for the episode is flawed. I agree with Torres: Reinititialize the holodeck! They AREN'T real people!
Re: "Threshold" I guess you can say it introduced a cool-looking Type-9 shuttlecraft. Other than that...
a shuttle with no cargo capacity...
Ack. I missed the part where you said you were kidding.
As for "Profit and... well, you know," Rom absolutely cracks me up! When he's showing Quark how to walk and sit, I can't stop laughing. I know they're cheap laughs, but I can't help myself.
"Drink Slugo Cola: the slimiest cola in the galaxy!"
I think it was Nog who said that, not Rom.
All the Ferengi said it at one point.
The only episode I really couldn't stand was Move Along Home, in particular because Quark doesn't even learn his lesson about the price he might have to pay for running dishonest games.
I thought Call to Arms was one of the best cliffhangers. I know the Rom/Leeta stuff can be annoying, but in my opinion that hardly makes it mediocre when factoring in every other part of the episode.
I thought it was a pretty darn good ones myself. There were plenty of DS9 2-parters that ARE pretty mediocre in my book - Homefront, Past Tense, etc. ... But Call to Arms, The Search, In Purgatory's Shadow... when they did it right, they did it RIGHT! :-)
