Return of the DS9 Trekouplets!

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: DS9: DS9 Kitchen Sink: *** Old Sinks ***: Return of the DS9 Trekouplets!
By Lea Frost on Wednesday, December 08, 1999 - 2:43 pm:

You're all familiar with the rules: I give you a bunch of rhymed doggerel, you tell me the name of the episode. Let the Trekoupling begin!

1. I don't think I'd be committing perjury
If I told you this tale of non-voluntary surgery.

2. A talisman he wasn't meant to find
Nearly drives a legend out of his mind.

3. Damar shows his leadership potential
While Quark gets overly self-referential.

4. Hilarity ensues when Nog and Jake
Learn immortality's a piece of cake.

5. A captive crew finds a fortunate solution
That arrives in proportions Lilliputian.

6. Sisko and Dukat form an uneasy alliance
Against a group that preaches the joys of self-reliance.

7. A former love comes through the looking glass,
And things start getting dull. I think I'll pass.

8. The odds of winning give Bashir a reason
To save many lives by committing treason.

9. This spectacle in hideous drag
Made viewers reach for the old barf bag.

10. When an ancient booby-trap catches the station off-guard,
Dukat finds he's been hoist with his own petard.

More DS9 Trekouplets coming in the not-too-distant future.

By Lea Frost on Wednesday, December 08, 1999 - 10:12 pm:

It's time for Round 2! If these are too easy, let me know... :-)

11. While on a mission of mercy, Bashir and O'Brien find
That things aren't really much fun in a superspy's twisted mind.

12. Two rivals climb a mountain, freeze their butts,
And otherwise drive one another nuts.

13. Eight thousand people pay the cost
When Odo seeks to regain what he's lost.

14. Tain's ruthless incursion into Dominion borders
Makes mincemeat of the Obsidian Order.

15. Bad aging makeup and trite allegory
Don't usually make for a compelling story.

16. This defector his vows did break
And gave his life for his deity's sake.

17. The Highlander is nowhere in sight
When Bashir tries to cure a terrible blight.

18. Kira makes insights worthy of Deepak Chopra
In this tale reminiscent of The Phantom of the Opera.

19. When the door is locked and the windows are too,
Who could be the culprit but a man made of goo?

20. O'Brien goes through utter hell
In a courtroom worthy of George Orwell.

12. The Ascent
13. Children of Time

By Lea Frost on Thursday, December 09, 1999 - 2:05 pm:

Help! I've become addicted to Trekouplet writing! Here's Round 4. Anyone who paid attention in English class should find this one pretty easy. (Oh, and one of them contains a really obvious clue.)

21. The Defiant is crippled by Jem'Hadar torpedoes
And Dax and Bashir must confront their libidos.

22. Bajor loses a well-loved dignitary
On a world where death is only temporary.

23. On a mission under cloak, Odo is drawn
To go back home (albeit not to spawn).

24. Although they gave the mission a valiant try,
This youthful crew was not too young to die.

25. An old mentor throws Garak a line,
And he and Worf visit part two of the Comedy Divine.

26. Sisko uncovers corruption that befell
From an admiral who'd rather reign in Hell.

27. The fleet this much-beloved soldier led
Did close the wall up with our Klingon dead.

28. While the Vedek Assembly is concerned with matters solemn,
Kira learns that she may be in love with a fifth column.

29. A lack of trust on either side
Leads to negligent deicide.

30. The crew discovers all the world's a stage
When Commander Sisko is possessed with rage.

Round 4 (that last one was 3 -- I just lost count) is coming in the not-too-distant future. :-)

By Lea Frost on Friday, December 10, 1999 - 12:50 pm:

It's time for Round 4 -- the real one this time -- of those delicious, nutritious Trekouplets!

And yes, I do have Milton on the brain. But I do have an excuse... :-)

31. When Mirror Sisko gets the ax,
Our Sisko gets to sleep with Dax.

32. Allamaraine! The crew has to cope
With a game invented by someone smoking dope.

33. This nuptial bash turns out swell,
Despite the arrival of in-laws from hell.

34. In which Mr. Garak can't understand why
Bashir isn't willing to live and let die.

35. Keiko meets the bane of season seven,
Who once decided not to serve in heaven.

36. The end of war brings changes fundamental,
And Sisko has an experience transcendental.

37. Worf does something rather regrettable,
And his trial makes this episode forgettable.

38. O'Brien's coffee habits (according to his wife)
Prove instrumental in saving his life.

39. Jem'Hadar loyalty is put to the test
When Odo tries to play "Founder Knows Best."

40. O'Brien gets too caught up in his job
When he infiltrates the interstellar mob.

Don't forget to watch Win Ben Stein's Money on December 22!

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Friday, December 10, 1999 - 8:40 pm:

ScottN, this is so unfair. You get to check these things during the day, when *some* of us have bumper-to-bumper traffic to contend with on the way home from music lessons. For once, something I'm good at, and I get here too late to play!

By Lea Frost on Friday, December 10, 1999 - 9:07 pm:

OK, Matt. Just for you, I'll post the next set in the evening -- level the playing field a bit... :-)

By len on Monday, December 13, 1999 - 8:18 am:

HEY!!! I ONLY check this site in the DAY time!!! How about a 6pm (EST) posting as a compromise???

By Lea Frost on Monday, December 13, 1999 - 11:35 am:

I'll see what I can do. I haven't had any time for Trekouplet writing recently due to papers and exams -- by the time this weekend rolled around I couldn't afford to procrastinate too much. I'll have a new set soon, though! :-)

By Lea Frost on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 - 3:44 pm:

At long last, another batch of Trekouplets, filled with creamy goodness, and the odd bit of Gollum-esque syntax. (I needed it for the rhyme.) And right around 6 pm, as I said! :-)

41. The beginning of the end is close at hand,
And Worf finds himself in great demand.

42. Sisko finds that Kasidy Yates
Is involved with him for more than dates.

43. Winn objects to Keiko's lesson planses;
She might feel very much at home in Kansas.

44. Odo finds a clue to his origin
When his "father" finds a stone pillar to forage in.

45. Since Quark isn't a smooth negotiator,
Nog learns the handy uses of the neural stimulator.

46. Brunt's hiding in the closet -- perhaps that's why
His mirror double is the token hetero guy.

47. There's two O'Briens -- or even four or five!
How many of them will come out alive?

48. The crew comes home in triumph, only to find
Dukat has lost his station, his daughter, his mind.

49. A freakish accident sets in motion
This moving tale of filial devotion.

50. When Quark attempts to win his ex-wife back,
Worf plays Cyrano de Bergerac.

By Lea Frost on Thursday, January 27, 2000 - 7:05 pm:

I've got a whole new set of Trekouplets, hot off the presses, or whatever, after a long hiatus (my muse went on vacation for a while). Without further ado, Round Six!

51. Eddington learns that running the Maquis
Isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

52. The Allies start the march to Cardie Prime,
And a good friend is killed before her time.

53. In which we learn that they *do* care a smidge
If you're a Cardassian in a Bajoran orphanidge.

54. Sisko and company lead the attack
To get the eponymous station back.

55. Odo finally manages to score
In an episode reminiscent of film noir.

56. Quark makes a mark in the armaments biz,
But finds what a crisis of conscience is.

57. Since the redshirts don't know the rules for horror-movie survival,
They're unpleasantly dispatched shortly after their arrival.

58. The general opinion is less than elation
When Worf and Dax take a not-so-excellent vacation.

59. Meeting Lwaxana makes Odo melt,
But it has nothing to do with the way he felt.

60. In which we find that one Gabriel Bell
Resembles Ben Sisko remarkably well.

By ScottN on Thursday, April 13, 2000 - 4:46 pm:

Lea, my dear, where did you go?
Did you stop to eat some of Martok's tacos?
Or maybe some of Weyoun's Tapioca...
I'm trying to get in all of your jokes, yeah.
Perhaps you're bashing in Bashir's head,
Because no Trekouplets are there to be read...

By Lea Frost on Thursday, April 13, 2000 - 6:50 pm:

I got bogged down in rehearsals and term papers. I'll have the next set up really soon -- I need to write a couple more for a set of ten. :-)

By Aaron on Monday, April 17, 2000 - 3:51 pm:

By ScottN on Monday, April 17, 2000 - 10:09 pm:

But we see the picture of Sisko under the Gabriel Bell entry at the end of Past Tense II.

By ScottN on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 - 3:38 pm:

Lea, you have forgotten
Trekouplets like our friend Len.
When will there be more,
So that we can add to our score?

By Wannabe Trek Writer on Thursday, June 15, 2000 - 2:09 am:

I wish I had known about this page sooner so I could have played along. But since Lea is apparently MIA, I will try a couple:

1. Three legends return, but this time with bumps.
Needless to mention, also more plump.

2. This episode caused some Trekkers to flap:
Should Julian change his name to Von Trapp?

3. An event that had me cheering with gusto:
I finally saw Vic Fontaine bite the dust-o.

By ScottN on Thursday, June 15, 2000 - 9:00 am:

1 Blood Oath
3 The Emperors New Cloak

By ScottN on Thursday, June 15, 2000 - 9:01 am:

Incidentally, WTW, to avoid confusion, it's a good idea to start a new board if you want to write your own Trekouplets (see NextGen -- len and Johnny Veitch) so that people won't get confused about what's been done and not been done.

By Wannabe Trek Writer on Thursday, June 15, 2000 - 11:50 am:

I'm not sure what you mean about "what's been done and not been done." Do you mean because some of mine may reference episodes already done by Lea? If so, where's the fun in that? No. I always preferred the tests where answers could be repeated (it's not fun if you figure it out by process of elimination).

But I certainly didn't intend to confuse anyone. It was late when I stumbled onto the board. And Lea hadn't posted anything in months. So I decided to toss in a few I made up at the moment.

Sorry. Didn't know this board was owned.

By ScottN on Thursday, June 15, 2000 - 12:05 pm:

It's not owned. It's more tradition...

By Lea Frost on Sunday, June 18, 2000 - 5:43 pm:

And I'm not MIA! :-) I just haven't been around as much lately (slower connection and everything).

Incidentally, I completely forgot about the last round -- I will finish in the not-too-distant future, really!

By Sarah Perkins on Wednesday, June 21, 2000 - 11:17 pm:

Now, now, let's let WTW finish:

2) Chrysalis

Lea, I love these, please come back when you can.

By Lea Frost on Thursday, June 22, 2000 - 10:34 pm:

At loooooooong last, here's the next fun and educational round of DS9 Trekouplets, with flavorful fruity fillings! Enjoy. :-)

61. A telepathic version of the Link
Shows that Odo's hands aren't as clean as we think.

62. When several people turn up dead,
The answer turns out to be in Bashir's head.

63. When Kira's in danger of being swallowed whole,
Odo does some searching of his soul.

64. The crew meets their descendants potential
And Odo and Kira have a crisis existential.

65. Mobsters pop out of a jack-in-the-box,
And Nog shows off his skill at picking locks.

66. There's love and death (albeit no taxes)
Among these multiplying Daxes.

67. The Romulans fall for a well-crafted fiction,
And Ross uses terrible Latin diction.

68. A case of celestial pomposity
Afflicts the Nagus with first-class generosity.

69. Winn continues on the path to hell
And a tough little ship takes its last farewell.

70. Obsidian Order interference
Gives Major Kira a different appearance.

By Wannabe Trek Writer on Thursday, June 22, 2000 - 10:43 pm:

61. Oooh, oooh, oooh! I know this! ARGH!
62. Seen this one, too. Just can't recall the name.
63. Heart of Stone
64. Children of Time
65. Badda Bing, Badda Bang
66. Stumped.
67. By the Pale Moonlight
68. By the Profits, I know this!
69. Forgot the title
70. Face of the Enemy II

Didn't intend to steal your thunder, Lea. Glad to see you back, though.

By Lea Frost on Saturday, June 24, 2000 - 12:37 am:

By ScottN on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 - 5:12 pm:

Lea, looks like you need another verse to 62.

By Sarah Perkins on Tuesday, July 04, 2000 - 8:11 pm:

Darn, people always get to these before I do! Yeah, 62 needs another verse. My 1st guess was Distant Voices, and I can't come up with another one ("Inquisition", good guess Scott). Gotta love just reading these though! Thanks, Lea!

By Bettina Böhme on Wednesday, July 05, 2000 - 10:29 am:

62: The Quickening???

By D.W. March on Wednesday, July 05, 2000 - 3:21 pm:

62: The Passenger?

By ScottN on Wednesday, July 05, 2000 - 4:27 pm:

I bet DW gets the cookie!

By Lea Frost on Wednesday, July 05, 2000 - 5:33 pm:

Indeed he does! What kind of cookies do you like, D.W.? :-)

(And it's a good thing, too, because I couldn't think of another verse...)

By D.W. March on Wednesday, July 05, 2000 - 11:19 pm:

Coffee flavor.
How about this for a revised verse?

Even though Bashir's tricorder says the evil is dead...
The evil is really inside Bashir's head.

Anyone who's read their DS9 guide would have gotten it then!

By Josh Mastin on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 11:22 pm:

Extreme Measures

By Lea Frost on Saturday, August 19, 2000 - 11:04 pm:

That is much better, D.W. :-)

(Josh, it's still "The Passenger" -- D.W. revised my crappy couplet. Extreme Measures is #11.)

By Josh Mastin on Monday, August 21, 2000 - 3:16 pm:

Sorry, didn't read the above posts.

By ScottN on Friday, October 06, 2000 - 7:41 pm:

Oh Leah, are you there?
The Kouplet fans are wondereing where
We might go and find
More Trekouplets for Deep Space Nine.

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 14, 2000 - 10:51 am:

Hey! Where's the next batch of DS9 Trekouplets?

By Lea Frost on Friday, November 17, 2000 - 1:39 am:

They're coming! I've been really busy basically the entire semester...senior year and all...

By A Pac10 Trekoupler on Friday, November 17, 2000 - 9:09 am:

Yeah, you Michiganders think you'll win the Rose Bowl... Well, you've got another think coming!

By Cynical-Chick on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 - 8:22 pm:

I don't know if it's been solved yet, so...

62. Distant Voices

I would have known it, even if it wasn't one of my many favorite eps.

By ScottN on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 - 8:52 am:

Cynical Chick, 62 was The Passenger.

By ScottN, getting annoying on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 - 12:41 pm:

I've been patient and then some
Since the turn of the Millenium
There have been no new rhymes
To help me waste my time.

[To the tune of "Oh where has my little dog gone"]
Oh where, oh where has Lea Frost gone?
Oh where, oh where can she be?
With her kouplets trek and our waiting long...
Oh where, oh where can she be?

By Len on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 4:47 pm:

still working?

By Len on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 4:48 pm:

where'd everyone go??

By ScottN on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 5:54 pm:

They went away and left us, Len. :-(
