New online TAS comic "The Heads of the Hydrea"

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Trek Animated Series: The Animated Sink (AKA Yet Another Sink): New online TAS comic "The Heads of the Hydrea"

My new TAS comic is now online. Please let me know what you think, and tell your Trek friends!

Thanks, my partners and I hope you enjoy it!

This is fan fiction. Star Trek, and Star Trek the animated series are owned by Paramount and Filmation studios. This was done as a hobby.

Once again, Kail, I enjoyed your comic. It was very interesting. I liked your explanation for the Klingons' new look , as well as your concept of how the Klingon-Romulan Alliance ended (even if they will never be considered canon). And of course, the reappearance of Joanna McCoy was very much welcomed. I also noticed that you changed the insignia symbol on Scotty's and the security guards' delta badges from the Science eye to the Engineeing-Technical spiral. Cool.

One question, the security guard on page 10, the one with the beard, he looked a bit like Commander Will Riker. Was that intentional?

Again, thanks for sharing this comic!

Live long and prosper!

Cool! I've been looking forward to the next comic, and it was interesting. I, too, liked the tie-ins with TOS & TAS, as well hints about things we see in ST: TMP. Will the comics eventually show the change in Starfleet uniform styles to those of ST:TMP?
Another security guard gets "red-shirted"... it wouldn't be Star Trek without that!
I did find one nit: on page 11, the word "your" should be "you're", as in the contraction for "you are". I also have an observation: Bones seems to accept very quickly that Joanna's both married and pregnant. Or did I miss a page?
Anyway, I really enjoy the comics. Keep 'em coming!

I forgot to mention that Joanna's crashing shuttle streaking across the sky reminded me of both the Columbia's demise over Texas and the Enterprise's demise over Genesis .

Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad you all seem to like the comic, we work very hard on them, and try to make them as "Trek" as possible.

One question, the security guard on page 10, the one with the beard, he looked a bit like Commander Will Riker. Was that intentional?

Not really, but it could be his grand-father!! :) Seriously, this new story had so many characters, I used drawings from peoples TAS portraits that were commisioned from me.

Will the comics eventually show the change in Starfleet uniform styles to those of ST:TMP?

Probably not. I'm trying to stay close to the TAS look, and time period. I just like adding elements from later series and movies, as long as they conform to continuity. Klingon's, we later learn, had been using bat'leths for many years, and must have had them during the TOS/TAS time frame, we just never saw them until TNG. So I feel they can be included.

Another security guard gets "red-shirted"... it wouldn't be Star Trek without that!

Right! You might be interested in this deleted scene....

EXT. City of Kessica Day

Asrod is leading Kirk, Spock, Ulic and TWO Security Officers into the decaying city.

GUARD ONE:
(THE YOUNGER ONE)
THIS IS MY FIRST AWAY TEAM MISSION. I HOPE IT GOES WELL!

GUARD TWO:
(MUMBLES TO HIMSELF)
OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN…

I did find one nit: on page 11, the word "your" should be "you're", as in the contraction for "you are".

You're right!! I'll have to fix that. Thanks!

I also have an observation: Bones seems to accept very quickly that Joanna's both married and pregnant.

Well, I never thought of Joanna being married as a surprise to Bones, just her pregnancy. I know at first he asks about Joanna McCoy, but I thought it more a slip of the tongue.

Thanks again for your support!! Please tell your friends to check it out. We'd like as many people to view it as possible!!

Great story...I'd like to see something like this with Kirk & Rand next.

By ScottN on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 8:54 am:

No, John, you'd like to see something like that with Ensign John A. Lang and Yeoman Rand next. :O

John, John, John. (shakes head) I never gave Rand a second thought, the first one covered everything!! :) I promise you, I'll try to work Rand into the next story somewhere.

Nice story once again. Very Trek-like. However, a few nits:
"Lieutenant" is misspelled on page 18.
"councilmen" should be "councilman" on page 7.
Uhura has the sciences insignia on page 27.
The title of the story says "Hydrae" on the first page and "Hydrea" on the last page.

Thanks Nove! Glad you liked the story, and thanks for pointing out those typos.

I enjoyed it very much too - particularly the little but so gratifying details like the Bird-of-Prey pattern on the Romulan D7s, the Romulan leader being Alidar Jarok from TNG, and of course McCoy's daughter. One of the more original explanations for the morphing of Klingons I've seen, though of course contradicted by Enterprise - I'm assuming you prefer not to reference Enterprise, judging by the design of the Romulan War-era ship in "Nature to Eternity". Keep 'em coming!
