Favorite character and why?

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: M*A*S*H: The Officers' Club (AKA The Kitchen Sink): Favorite character and why?

I figure this is a usual question to ask, but there's really no place to post it. So, the point of this subject is to say who your favorite character is, and why they are your fave. I'll start.

Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan is my fave. Profession notwithstanding, her personality rocks. She's one of those few people with the dam-your-eyes self-assuredness that says that she'll do what she thinks is right, no matter who disagrees. She refused to bow to pressure from peers, and seldom backed down from a fight. She was professional to patients, and still could be a heck of a good time.
There were times she did something that I thought was a sucky thing to do, like in Banannas, Crackers and Nuts, but in all, she was funny and a sweet person. Add to that the laughs that her various affairs, her relationship with Frank, and her initial stuffiness brought, and she is far and away my favorite character.

So, what are yours?

Her affairs (especially with Frank) are the main reasons I have for not liking Major Margaret. But I think she finally rallies that self-assuredness you mentioned and dowses her dependance on men, which puts her up a notch on my list.

I started watching this show because of Harry Morgan and kept watching because of Sherman T. Potter, so I'll mention him as a very close runner-up. He's the perfect commander for the 4077th - strict when necessary, lenient in-between, intelligent, clever, dedicated to his family, and firm in his beliefs. He's also very funny; I think Harry Morgan has an incredible gift for comedy and I love when the writers used it.

My favorite character, though, would be Father Mulcahy. The biggest reason - we're both completely devoted to basically the same religion. I also love his quiet, self-effacing manner, and his somewhat unique brand of humor. He's the epitomy of almost everything I admire and respect.

I liked Trapper and Pierce. And Radar. And Potter.

I didn't like Margaret, either in the beginning or the end. (I was yelling "Noooooo!" at the screen when I first saw the ep where she and Pierce kissed.)

Trapper I liked because he just seemed...I dunno. I just liked him. My first answer when I saw this question was "Trapper!"

Pierce I liked because he admitted he was a jerk, he was funny and he cared about moral stuff. I know a lot of the episodes really seemed to stress morality to the point where it wasn't funny, but it proved he was a human being. I didn't like his chauvinism, or his chasing after the nurses much though.

Radar I liked because of his ESP (I wished they'd made more of it though, maybe make an episode about it), and because he had a really cool job. :-)

Potter because of his sort of fatherly nature. Plus I envied him; he had the coolest job, besides Radar and Pierce (well, I thought all jobs at a MASH were cool).

Radar,'cause he somehow managed to keep his
innocence despite everything going on around
him.

My all time favorite character would have to be Captain Tuttle. He had the best lines!

Frank's mine. For some reason, I've always liked his obsession with getting the respect he 'deserves'. I'm part of the Air Force Aux, so I can relate to some of the military things he wants the other officers to do. For instance, when he wants them to go to attention when he enters and leaves the movie area, that's totally correct. Being the ranking officer and commander, it would be part of customs and courtesies. Also, his irritation at no one saluting him is right on as well.
