The Ringbanger

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: M*A*S*H: Season One: The Ringbanger
By D.K. Henderson on Tuesday, February 08, 2000 - 5:30 pm:

Plot: When a colonel (Leslie Nielson) racks up too many casualties, Hawkeye, Trapper and Radar conspire to have him sent stateside by driving him crazy.

How exactly do Hawkeye and Trapper go about switching the location of the colonel's tent? It would seem that this would be complicated and rather noticeable considering it would have to be done while he's out of his tent. Not to mention having to re-wire the loudspeaker.

It doesn't seem likely that, if Col. Ringbanger found Margaret attractive, he would worry about Henry finding out, especially since he thought Henry was a drunk.

I was checking on a nit that I picked up elsewhere, and I saw it--when Margaret goes into the Colonel's tent, you can see a glimpse of his glass of milk--before the hand reaches in to put it there.

By D.K. Henderson on Monday, April 24, 2000 - 8:27 am:

Margaret said she didn't understand why the Colonel was being kept at the 4077th--"I've checked his medical records and he's one hundred percent fit." The man had just had a bullet removed from his leg a few days earlier. There is no way that he could be classed as 100 percent until that wound had healed completely.

Actually, it also happens even earlier than that, D.K. After the first tent switch, Hawkeye and Trapper go in with Buzz to reassure him that the tent they were in was, indeed, Buzz's tent. They also helpfully point out that the milk Brighton wanted was also in the tent. But even before it's mentioned, even before Radar puts it in the tent, the glass of milk is plainly visible.

As of this episode, Hawkeye is no longer from Vermont. He's from "southern Maine". Crabapple Cove has yet to be identified as the city. It's strange, because in both the novel and movie, Hawkeye was from Crabapple Cove, Maine. Why the series' PTB originally had him being from Vermont, I'll never know.

There's a scene in Henry's tent that been deleted. Henry is shaving the hair from his earlobes (that's why he later has a bandage on his ear later). Frank Burns is complaining about General Brighton's prolonged stay at the 4077th. Leslie, on her way to Tokyo comes in and gets a list of things Henry wants her to bring back. Henry then tells Frank to examine Buzz Brighton himself, if the Major is so upset about Brighton's stay.

When Frank goes to examine Buzz, he finds the Colonel in the Swamp. Other than for a martini, why is Colonel Brighton in the Swamp? Neither Pierce not McIntyre are there. They're outside tossing a football back and forth.

Margaret is getting ready to go Buzz's tent to "comfort" him. Frank comes in to confront her about it. He comments that she has a new hairdo. Doesn't look new to me.

Throughout this episode, Hawkeye has Buzz's walking cane nearby. Even in scenes in which Colonel Brighton is not in.

The doll with the orange kimono is missing from Henry's desk. The one in the red kimono, however, is there.
