Plot: The nurses boycott the males at the 4077th, until someone (Hawkeye) dates a klutzy nurse.

There didn't seem to be all that many males in the Swamp when they were making their plans for Edwina. And I never understood why Frank was there in the first place. I understood why they wouldn't let him leave, but why did he attend? Surely Margaret wouldn't have been part of the boycott.

I really think that this is one of Hawkeye's finer (and funnier) moments. As Edwina points out, he tries so hard to be considerate. Not what you'd really expect from a casual philanderer.

Well, he does live in the Swamp. Why wouldn't he be in his own tent? I'm kind of under the impression that the meeting was being held while Frank happened to be in the tent. He is then threatened into joining in the lottery. The questions are, "Where's the rest of the men of the 4077th? Why aren't they participating? More importantly, where's Henry? He was affected by the boycott.

One thing I want to know is how a klutz like Edwina got to be a nurse? For that matter, how did she get into the Army?

This is interesting. Frank Burns is apparently better with a knife than Eddie. The Major is the one who takes the knife from Eddie to use it to open Edwina's birthday present.

After the camp sings "For She's a Jolly Fellow", Eddie bolts from the Mess Tent. Nurse Cutler follows her. I think much of their dialogue may have been cut. I could be wrong, though.

According to Nurse Cutler, the men at the 4077th out number the women 10 to one. Just thought you'd like to know.

I think it's kind of strange that the nurse already had that "Get Lost!" slide she shows Radar prepared. How did she know she would need it? (Also kind of strange seeing Radar hit on a woman.)

In this episode there isn't anyone serving the MASHers their food in the Mess Tent. It's strictly self-service.

Syndication cut: Hawkeye and Trapper try to get Henry to do something about the boycott. Henry says he's been boycotted, too. But the boycott's not affecting him. Radar then shows up to tell Colonel Blake his shower is ready and the water is nice and cold.

After Hawkeye wins Eddie in the lottery, Nurse Cutler says, "Now we'll all get to see how the great lover operates." I thought everyone had already seen him operate. (Double entendre fully intended.)

I've been noticing this and thought I'd comment on it now. The TPTB made some extra effort to make sure you don't see the labels on the ketchup bottles. Most of the time the bottles are carefully turned so you can't see the labels. However in this ep, there's a bottle in front of Hawkeye and Edwina where you see someone tried to scrape the label off.

The nurses' tent look different than they do in later episodes.

Either Hawkeye wasn't expecting to get too intimate with Eddie or he really was going to let everyone in camp see how he operates. Otherwise you'd think he'd have the flaps to the Swamp pulled down.

Even though his foot was cut by glass, there doesn't appear to be any blood coming from it. You'd think he'd want to have that foot taken care of immediately, too.

No kidding. Actually, I'm wondering how the woman's made it to adulthood!
I mean, not to dis the centuries of jokes, but has anyone out there in real life ever encountered klutziness on the slapsticky TV-cliche level? I'm considered a bit of a klutz myself, and I've known a few, but none of us ever actively endangered the safety of others...:)

When Hawkeye enters the Swamp with Edwina, he takes off his shoes. Later, Eddie knocks down a glass and he steps in it, which of course injures his feet as he wasn't wearing shoes. But as he sits down on the bed you can see he still has his shoes on.

*|Annoyed Grunt!|* I saw that. For some reason it didn't sink in. He does indeed have the slippers on when he's on his bunk.

This might not be a nit, but while all the men in the camp are catching fire for their lack of 'action', none of the women are in the least bit phased. Have they all got marvellous self-control...or is it something else? ;)

Edwina may have developed her klutziness after becoming a nurse. Hawkeye pointed out that it seemed to be a defensive reaction (hurt him before he has a chance to hurt you).

BTW, the dialogue between Edwina and Cutler was cut. In syndication, they usually cut the scene as soon as Edwina says "...and I have never--" I can't remember the conversation, but I do know it went further than that

If Edwina's klutziness is indeed a defense mechanism as Hawkeye points out, it is still dangerous from a medical standpoint. After all, we see it happen in the OR when she is at Hawkeye's table and is nervous to the point of giving the wrong equipment.

In later episodes, we see Margaret trying to get rid of nurses for much lesser offenses. Why didn't she step in?
