!@#$%&* Syndication Cuts!

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: M*A*S*H: The Officers' Club (AKA The Kitchen Sink): !@#$%&* Syndication Cuts!

Syndication cuts can be really frustrating to those who remember the show as it was, and confusing to those who have only seen the show since it was chopped up. It can also create nits. I had commented on the episode "Bulletin Board" that, at the end, Radar can be heard saying "Choppers" although his mouth does not move. The next poster reminded me that that was due to a syndication cut, not an out-and-out blooper. There are probably quite a few nits like this, although I don't have time to go into them. One that comes to mind is in the episode "The Nurses", where an odd stain suddenly appears on the inner door of the nurses' tent. If you'd never seen the uncut version, you'd never know that an angry Nurse Baker hurled a helmet of homemade (liquid) fudge at the door after Margaret walked out.

Various people have been posting in various bits and pieces cut out of the episodes; bits that I have often forgotten about until reminded, such as Hawkeye halting an convoy in "Bug Out" by carrying Radar across the road on his back. Thank you all for the reminders, and please continue them when you can.

I have a couple of questions regarding cut scenes from "Goodbye Radar." First, when Klinger goes to pick up the generator, he does an impression of the Major who's shown up to claim the same generator. Klinger says "Lousy commies. I've had two swiped here already." In the syndicated version, the major did make the comment about having two generators swiped, but he never said anything about commies.

Later, after Father Mulchay says goodbye to him, Radar says "I'll say hello to your sister the sister." Was something cut here? Did Radar plan to meet Mulcahy's sister, as he planned to meet BJ's wife, or was this just a joke?

A couple of years, channel 21, the local UPN station here in Dallas, TX, ran episodes of M*A*S*H. It got to where the opening theme was cut to a couple of bars and just the word "M*A*S*H" was shown. That and the choppers. There was no indication of which you'd be watching.

Brian I think Radar did promise the Padre he'd get in touch with his "sister the sister". It's been awhile.
