Plot A: Hawkeye is left in charge after Col. Potter rushes off to Tokyo on a mysterious errand, and must deal with a large group of Korean refugees, mostly children, who need medical attention.
Plot B: Potter reveals that he is the last surviving member of a tontine formed during World War I.

Harry Morgan does a wonderful job with this episode. His speech at the end makes me cry every time.

I thought it was just a little odd that Potter included Winchester in this. I can see any of the others wanting Charles to be there, but I never saw him and Potter as being especially close.

He needed someone to explain what a Tontine was :o)

Watching this again last night, I was rather surprised to note that, during the emotional scene in Potter's tent, Charles appears to be crying a bit. The others looked moved, but Charles definitely had moisture on his cheeks and rather shiny eyes.

I hadn't really noticed this before, either: When they realize that all of the refugees are reacting to the anti-tetanus serum, Charles comments that "We'll have to dilute it." Later, this is clarified; multiple shots given at set intervals rather than just one dose. I'm surprised that they could make the kids sit still for getting shots over and over again.

When the refugees arrive, one of the little girls behind Betty Halpern is facing one way. In the next shot, she's facing another one.

The prop payphone Colonel Potter uses at the hospital was last used by Radar in "Are You Now, Margaret?"

B.J. tells the Korean kid that he's eating eggs. In one shot, Mrs. Halpern's face is turned to the boy. In the next shot, her face is only partly turned. The egg scene is cut for syndication, incidentally. In it, the Korean boy finally does take a bite of the eggs. He makes a face after tasting it. This is same boy who is with Colonel Potter in the C.O. office. When Potter offers the boy some fudge, the kid is reluctant to try it. Probably because of his experience with the eggs earlier in the day.

There's a wide shot of the camp escorting the kids onto the bus. Klinger is in the lead with Rita. He sets her on the bus. In the very next shot, Max and Rita are hugging.

Potter says the bottle "was mighty smooth in '17". Charles is reaching for a glass. When Winchester says it should be maginficent now, his hand is at his side.

So Gretsky was Potter's best friend, eh? Why haven't we heard about him before this?

"I'm so conservative, I make you look like a New Dealer."
