Plot: During a rough session in OR, Hawkeye teases Frank about his inadequacies, then finds one of his own patients mysteriously sinking.

I really have to say that this episode made me heartilly dislike the Hawkeye Peirce character. I HATE the way he treated Margaret toward the end, when he was saying that he didn't need her opinion, and gee, he may as well hang his medical diploma in the latrine. That made me SO mad. I hate being talked down to by doctors. Anyway, I wondered if the rest of y'all had a thought on this episode.

By ScottN on Sunday, March 19, 2000 - 1:28 am:

I don't think he was talking down to her. I think that was the frustration talking... the "hang the diploma in the latrine" was probably because of the sinking patient.

NOTE: This is the one where Frank says, "Anyone could have missed that".

DISCLAIMER: I haven't seen this ep in quite a long time.

SECONDARY DISCLAIMER: I agree with Lilith that nurses get a raw deal from doctors... I am the son of a nurse and the husband of a (different!) nurse.

This is one of the few episodes where Henry seems to know what he's doing. His speech to Hawkeye is right on the mark.

By Benn on Friday, October 19, 2001 - 9:59 pm:

This episode represents one of the rare times Hawkeye actually physically assaults someone (Frank Burns).

At the start of this episode, Hawkeye, Trapper, Radar and Ugly John are playing poker. According to Hawkeye, Ugly has been asleep for two hours, holding five cards. Did Pierce, McIntyre and Radar actually play poker for two hours without five cards, one of which was an ace? Or did they get a new deck?

Missing scene: We see Henry going to sleep (he puts his alarm clock in his boot), next thing we know, Radar's waking Hawkeye up, saying Colonel Blake wants to see him. What happened in between these scenes?

Is this the first time Margeret calls Captain Pierce, "Hawkeye"?

By Benn (Benn) on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 - 5:12 pm:

The opening theme is the same as the one in "The Army-Navy Game". It's a different arrangement than the one most commonly used in the scene.

Some of the scenes involving the arrival of casualities are recycled from the opening theme sequences (which were taken from the pilot.)

Cut for syndication - part of the Mess Tent dialogue just after the first OR scene. It's mostly Hawkeye & Trapper psycho-analyzing Radar's eating habits.

"Missing scene: We see Henry going to sleep (he puts his alarm clock in his boot), next thing we know, Radar's waking Hawkeye up, saying Colonel Blake wants to see him. What happened in between these scenes?" - me

What's missing is Radar telling Henry that Major Houlihan is throwing a fit and is threatening to call General Clayton.

The is the first episode to mention a Bonzo movie.

During the second poker game, we see Radar drinking a martini. In later episodes, Radar is portrayed as an innocent where alcohol is concerned.

Henry's wife is still named Mildred. Later eps will say her name Lorraine. Colonel Potter's wife is the one named Mildred.

Does the 4077th not yet have a company safe? If it does have one, why doesn't Radar put his poker winnings in the safe, instead of entrusting them to Henry? Radar doesn't know the combination yet?

The tag to this ep has been cut. Originally, it was Hawkeye returning to the Swamp, only to find a Captain Phillips has taken over Pierce's bunk. During this scene, we learned Hawkeye was the one who christened the tent "The Swamp."

I'm amazed Frank didn't try to have Hawkeye charged with assulting him. Several episodes later, when Hawkeye punched Frank, he had him arrested. I would have expected a similar reaction from Frank in this episode. (I suppose Henry could have talked Frank out of charging him off camera, but there is nothing in the dialouge to support this.)

Trap, Hawk & Radar are using a different deck of cards.

A blue backed deck.

Ugly John is holding red backed cards in his hand.

Benn: The is the first episode to mention a Bonzo movie.

And one that came out in 1952. That poses a problem for people who try dating this show, I think. Also rather implausible that the army would have such current films.
