The letter Hawkeye receives from his dad is dated May 4th, 1951. Thought you might like to know.

Wonder why Henry wasn’t in the OR? Only Hawkeye, Trapper and Frank were there. Though I swear I can hear him in a voice over.

After leaving Henry’s office, it looks like Pierce and McIntyre pass Igor. An early cameo? He’s the guy getting his haircut and a manicure. I thought the 4077th had a barber.

There is a scene cut where Hot Lips and Major enter the company clerk’s office looking for Henry. Radar is reading a comic book. The scene contains an early “Yes ma’am/sir” bit. It also states that Henry is from Bloomington, Illinois. Radar says he’s from Iowa. Ottumwa is not identified as his hometown yet.

In the scene, Margaret is wearing a brown sweater. When we next see her, she has a smock on over it. She and Major Burns are looking for Henry. Why does she put the smock on? Also, she and Frank catch up with Henry, Hawkeye and Major Stoner in the company clerk’s office. But when they were last seen, they had left the office. And where, I wonder, did Radar go?

This ep may take place just before “Five O’Clock Charlie”. After Hawkeye breaks the arm on Henry’s desk doll, Colonel Blake says he just got her. In the ep “Five O’Clock Charlie”, Henry says he’s had the doll for a week.

General Clayton tells Hawkeye to write up the story on Tai Dong. Pierce motions Radar to hand Clayton a file that apparently holds the version of the Tai Dong attack Pierce and McIntyre wish to see printed. When did the doctors write that article? How did they know they have to be the ones to write it? And why is it that Radar just happens to have said article?

This episode proceeds “Radar’s Report”. It takes place around May 24th, 1951. That’s the date on the letter Hawkeye’s Dad sends his son. By the way, should Pierce’s initial letter, asking for Senator Baxter’s help in the Tai Dong matter, still have gone out? It wasn’t necessary anymore. Why didn’t Hawkeye send a follow up letter? Or did he? Erroneously in my previous post I said it was dated May 4th. We regret this error.

As a final note, this is General Clayton's (Herb Voland) final appearance on MASH as he is discharged from the Army.
