Plot: Col. Potter decides that Hawkeye and B.J. should be nice to Frank, so they bring him into a poker game, where they discover that Frank has both incredible luck and a high tolerance for alcohol.

"Emotionally exhausted and morally bankrupt." We once wrote those words on a piece of paper and tied it to the toe of a guy that fell asleep at a party.

I understand that when they first wrote this episode, the plan was for Frank to get totally smashed. It was Larry Linville's idea that Frank should toss back the rotgut without showing much effect at first.

The episode title means "The Day."

Radar's magic corresponse course certainly paid off. In the beginning of this episode, he's asleep with a comic book in hand; "The Avengers", a comic book series that didn't debut until the early sixties. The next time we see the comic, it has a different cover.

I meant "correspondent course."

This episode gives one of the best hints that there really were other doctors we never saw. After their night of debauchery, Hawkeye, BJ and Frank go to the Swamp, very intoxicated. Colonel Potter sees them, and goes to bed. Frank wakes up, and goes to the latrine. A Battalion Aid ambulance pulls up carrying wounded. Klinger, on guard duty, sends them to Pre-Op. Now, the Swamp Men are too drunk to operate. Potter is not called for. So who took care of the wounded? The other doctor(s). Wonder where they slept?

Captain Spalding did not sleep in the Swamp, as far as I can tell. Yet, temporary replacement doctors, like Roy Dupree and Steve Newsome did. Was there another Officers Tent?

Potter and B.J. seem to be a bit surprised at how Frank tosses back thos martinis. Hawkeye doesn't seem fazed by it. He shouldn't be either. In the episode, "Dear Dad...Again", Hawkeye had already seen Major Burns drink gin like water.

Look at the pot of the final poker hand - somebody bet their watch. I'm curious to know who? (Judging by where it lay, it was either B.J. or Father Mulcahy.)

Hawkeye asks B.J. if he has a toe tag. Hunnicut gets one from Frank's desk. (The answer is no, Hawkeye. B.J. does not have a toe tag.) You gotta wonder why Frank has a toe tag among his personal effects.

When it comes down to it, Hawkeye and B.J. really didn't do too good a job of being nice to Frank. They were just as rude and insulting as ever to him. The only signs of kindness I can see is that they let Burns play poker with them and went to the Officer's Club to continue drinking with him.

There is a scene generally cut from O.R. Nurse Kelleye is assisting Frank. Frank drops an instrument and promptly blows up at her. This could explain why she looked so startled when he came on to her in the Officers' Club.

In the club, Kelleye started out dancing with Radar. She commented that his dancing had improved, and he said that he was taking lessons by mail. He then asked if she wanted to "dip". Kelleye worried that he would hurt himself, but Radar said that he could get out of the way! They then did a dip with no problems.

Hawkeye and B.J. both actually looked concerned when Frank crashed into the juke box and knocked himself out.

In the opening shot of this ep, the comic book Radar has is Avengers #72, which was a January 1970 release. In the next shot we see of Radar in bed, it's Avengers #60, a January, 1969 release.

To explain why he can't talk louder on the phone, Frank tells Margaret he's in Radar's office. Well, duh. Where else would he be placing the call? In the Colonel's office? Not likely. Especially at that time of the night. Potter's office is most likely locked at that time. Too bad we missed the scene where Frank has to deal with Sparky to get the call through. That would have been priceless.

Frank's been trying to reach Margaret for five hours? When he finally reaches her, it's three in the morning. That means that when Frank started to make his calls it was around 10 o'clock. Was Radar awake then? Did he help out? And did Colonel Potter give his "okey-dokey" for the phone call?

Frank mentions getting a new Andre Kostelanetz record. Kostelanetz was an orchestral pop artist. However, I can't confirm that he had either an album or even recorded a song called "Two Alone". Can anyone? And was it in release before 1953?

Here's another M*A*S*H "47" - In the initial O.R. scene, over the P.A. is this announcement: "Ralph Kiner has just hit his 47th home run of the season." Kiner was an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, if I understand the information on this page Ralph Kiner stats, the year he hit 47 homers was in 1950. That's well before Colonel Potter and B.J. were assigned to the 4077th. And given that Colonel Potter has, according to Hawkeye, been in command of the unit for a few months, this ep takes place in 1953. So, I'm not sure how it can be announced that Kiner has just hit his 47th homer in a season where he hit a total of 35 HRs. (Again, that's if I'm reading the stats right.) And if it's baseball season, then this means that this ep takes place in and around the Summer of '53.

The picture of Frank's mother is still missing from the shelf by the door to the Swamp. It must've really been damaged by the tank ride through the tent. ("Hey Doc!")

As the poker game ends, it's unusually dark in the Swamp. The only source of light is centered on the poker players.

Once again, the grounds of the 4077th is paved, when it should be dirt.

After they bring Frank back, Hawkeye asks B.J., "Now that you've seen an Aid Station, what do you think?" Um, my memory's not too clear on this. I may have to double check later, but didn't Captain Hunnicutt go to an Aid Station in "Welcome to Korea"?

Hey! I thought the door to Margaret's tent had been padlocked! Yet, when she returns from Tokyo, the Major opens the door without unlocking anything.

Hasn't the reunion between Frank and Margaret in her tent been cut for syndication? I barely remember that she bought some "glazed plums" for Frank.

Horse hockey!

In "Welcome to Korea" the trio took the girl injured in the mine field to a local hospital, I believe. B.J. could not believe the filthy conditions.
