Carlye (sp) sounded as though she, not Hawkeye, had been hitting the homemade gin a lot. Her voice was awfully gravelly sounding.

If you've only seen the syndicated version, you might have caught an odd-sounding phrase. When Hawkeye mentions that he has never gotten married, Carlye says something like "No one's gotten you to wear a topknot?" Hawkeye, understandably, says "Huh?" and Carlye shrugs it off. Prior to Hawkeye and B.J. visiting the new nurses in their tent (and how did they rate a tent for two? The other nurse ended up in a tent for four in a later episode) Carlye's roommate was reading from a travel book or something about local customs. She read that certain Korean males, when they married, started wearing their hair in a topknot. (I can't remember if they shaved all of their hair except for the topknot; it's been too long since I've seen that scene.)

I wonder if Carlye's marriage worked out or not. At the beginning, she seemed to indicate that she had a good, if tepid, marriage; her husband, unlike Hawkeye, was able to relate to something beyond his work and she was that something. At the end, suddenly, she wanted a divorce. This seemed to come about because of Hawkeye, yet she had no intention of marrying Hawkeye, so...?

According to Hawkeye, it takes a week for a transfer to go through. Yet, in the episode "Major Fred C. Dobbs", Frank and Margaret seemed to have gotten their transfers in less than a day. Of course, Henry probably was itching to get rid of them, so he may have expediated the orders.

"Expedited".

So I slipped. Excuse me.

In addition to having a practice in Boston, we now learn that Hawkeye's surgical residency was in Boston. It's almost amazing that Pierce and Winchester never heard of each other prior to their assignments to the 4077.

B.J.'s awful casual about the news that Carlye and Hawkeye lived together for about a year and a half. In those days, shacking up (do they still use that phrase?) was considered quite immoral.

Hawkeye and B.J. only give the new nurses one cigar, one ham, one bar of soap, one bottle of shampoo and one roll of toilet paper? Shouldn't they have given them two each of these items? Were Carlye and Becky really meant to share them? Well, maybe the ham... Though how they'll cook it....

Hawkeye tells Carlye there's been no one since her, that other women have been at best, "faint copies". Really? What about Ericka in "Radar's Report"? Pierce certainly wanted to marry her.

The hut Hawkeye and Carlye are drinking in appears to be the Officers' Club. It may only be a redress of the set, though, as it seems to be completely abandoned.

Interesting how the word "hobby" gets used a couple of times in this ep. Colonel Potter advises Radar to get a hobby. And B.J. says that minding his own business is a hobby.

You misheard the dialogue, D.K. Carlye tells Hawkeye she has to be honest with Doug, her husband. Hawk says that's fine, so tell him. She responds that if she does tell Doug about her affair with Pierce, that he'll want a divorce. There wasn't any lines about Carlye wanting a divorce. It was about what would happen if Doug found out about Carlye and Hawkeye.

Mary Jo Catlett plays Lt. Becky Anderson, the other new nurse, in this ep. She'll return in next season's "The Nurses". In that ep, her character becomes "Mary Jo". Why change the character's name?

Horse hockey!
