Computer Animation vs. Traditional Animation

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Spiderman: The Spider Web (ie the sink): Computer Animation vs. Traditional Animation
By Keith Alan Morgan on Tuesday, May 18, 1999 - 7:18 am:

For the most part Spider-Man did a good job of blending both styles of animation, but every now and then the two styles would be obvious and jar me out of the story. Usually when a long shot would show Spidey swinging across the city, the city would be computer animated, but when they showed a closeup such as Spidey clinging to a building it would traditionally animated. The problem is that traditional animation uses black lines with color inside whereas computers create artwork without black lines surrounding them. Either all the buildings should have been computer animated or the computer animation should have been designed with black lines around color.

Also the artwork would occasionally have the jagged pixel feel of a computer screen, although maybe that was just a bad reception problem with my TV.

I've noticed that when Spidey is swinging around, the computer stuff doesn't fit the movements of the camera. It really bugs me when it does that

If you are talking about the 90's series, I have
to agree that the computer/traditional animation
combo looks bad. And your respetion isn't the problem,
jagged lines (among other problem such
as slow downs) do appear often. Makes me
wonder if they used a regular Pentium PC for
the CGI :|

Yes, this is about the recent Fox Spider-Man cartoon.

Did any other Spider-Man cartoon use computer animation?

I love seeing the shadows on the characters' faces in the newest show!

This new series is really lame. I HATE it! Bring back the Fox series and have them find Mary Jane.

BTW: Does anyone know if the REALLY old Spiderman cartoons (Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can....) ever show anywhere on TV? I
would just like to see them again.
